I'm nearly finished "Rabbit at Rest" by John Updike, the last of his 4 "Rabbit" books....I've read one other but they run in sequence, started with the 2nd. and this is his last. Should have begun at the beginning. Updike is the author of "The Witches of Eastwick", well known film.

I think the Beano had the edge over the Dandy......for a better class of reader! Thats before I started on The Eagle, Wizard, Rover, Hotspur & Adventure. I also dabbled with The Topper but mainly because you got cheap & nasty free gifts......the gifts will probably be valuable antiques now....very collectable! Apologies to our female posters who had soppy things like Bunty & Girl and suchlike!

Just started reading a a ghost story..."The Man in the Picture" by Susan Hill....it seems good on reading the first pages. Also "The Elegance of the Hedgehog", Muriel Barberry. Both of these books were given to me when I was in North Shields Library to try. I accidently stumbled on my brother who is in a kind of reading club there & one of his fellow members persuaded me to join...you have the book/s for a month then do a little written review if you want to. Tea & biscuits are provided....all very civilised! Took out another John Updike..."Towards the End of Time" for myself.
