I've read Death Row, it's good, as is Blood Work and Hard Evidence by the same author. I'm reading Library of Gold by Gayle Lynds just now, it's quite good. It's an espionage/thriller/conspiracy type book I've got about half a dozen requests in the library that I'm waiting on. And about 10 waiting to be put in, which takes me up to September. I've also got about 20 on my list on Amazon, just waiting to be published!!

Not had the time to do much reading recently but I was thinking about what I would like to read. I used to love autobiographies/Biographies years back-my three favorites being about Francis Farmer,Montgomery Clift and Oscar Wilde-all very complicated people with interesting lives I have to admit theres not many books of this type tempting me right now tho-if anyone could recommend one I'd be well grateful

Shadow, I've just started reading "The Fry Chronicles" by Stephen Fry....its great....I'd highly recommend it, very funny and also interesting. I read some of his other earlier books, including autobiographical ones but this is his latest, published in 2010. Also just finished "The Talented Mr Ripley", Patricia Goldsmith, which was pretty good.....a film has been made of it. I suppose the category would come under "Crime Thriller".

I am re- reading Devils Guard, about remnants of the German Army from Russian front who had no where to run at the end of the war, they joined the French Foreign Legion who despised them and sent them to what became the Vietnamese War prior to the Americans getting involved, A real good book by one who was there, I temper it with, Short stories that I find online. Regards, Geordie.

I am also into Audio Books, any sort, I think I like them because I used to listen to the stories on the Home Service with my Gran circa 1950 and continued up to present with Radio 4, much better than TV, Mrs Geordie watches a lot of TV but I am always in my garage messing with something or in the back room reading this forum and similar stuff, (this one is the best) Regards, G

Mr Shads loves his radio and books being read to him over it Not my thing at all-I prefer to read my own books without some random person inflictiing their random interpretation on me To me books are very special-especially well written ones. They allow you to follow the story but put your own interpretation to them-accents,appearances etc. Telly, radio etc-they just kill it for me most times

I know what you mean shads. I think a TV series or film ruins a book. I've read the Val McDermid books with Tony Hill as the lead character, and he was played by Robson Green on the telly - not how I visualised him at all!!! And when I read the books now all I can see is his soddin' face!
Geordie, the karma is something you can press for someone if you think someone has done a good post, or a rubbish one - smite/exalt

Currently reading the original typescript of STrANgER IN A StRANgE LAnD by Robert Heinlein. The 1st edition published in 1961 contained just over 160,000 words while the original actually held some 220,000. The book was considered highly controversial and required severe cutting with complete removal of some aspects which at the time were thought offensive to public taste. Such is the narrative and content it was even under threat of an all out ban. That aside it still became a Hugo Winning best seller and is regarded by many authorities to be the pinnacle of Heinlein's many works. Fortunately due to a change in copyright law in the States and following his death we are now able to read the original full volume. CWL

I'm reading "Harmony" by Prince Charles....assisted by Ian Skelly & Tony Juniper. It's a book about ecology, sustainability etc etc.....a new way of looking at the world....how if we don't change things soon all sorts of calamitous things will happen! A sensible & somewhat shocking book.

Currently reading George R. R. Martin's "A Storm of Swords" which is the third book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Got a friend who has started to read the first one after having seen the TV-series so I need to finish those books that are out before he catches up with me.... if he catches up with me.... when he heard that there would be at least five books he went "What?" and "Errr...."

Natt, have you ever read any of the old Icelandic Sagas.....I read some of them years ago and was amazed to find that they were very readable....they seemed so modern in the way they were written....also very bloodthirsty! Also read "The Men of Ness" by Eric Linklater....all about the Shetland, Orkneys Vikings.

Seb I have read all of Martin's books, particularly love his short stories and he is up there as one of my all time favourite authors. I take it your friend is either new to S&S, Fantasy, Alternative Realities, SF or has not yet come across a host of specific writers if he or she is shocked to find there are several books or a complete series of them to read. Used to drive me mad at one time waiting for the next in a series. Now I just hope to be around long enough to actually read it................ CWL

Well to be honest I think he's new to reading altogether... and he's taking on GRRM in English...
You could also wonder if he will be around long enough to finish it.
