For gods sake-do we never learn All good stuff for the arms industry mind-the EU has reportedly exported over 300 million Euros worth of weapons to Libya each year and now we will arm the rebels. Will we be training them on how to use the weapons too

What is even more mind boggling than the coalition considering arming the rebels is the fact they're doing it while there is intelligence that suggests Al Queda has infilitrated the rebellion... I mean Gaddafi is a fairly bad fellow but I would rather he lead the Libyan people with an iron fist than Al Queda getting into a position of authority of a nation that has a significant amount of oil which they could use to funnel tens/hundreds of millions towards fighting us.
I'm semi-against the no-fly zone, I'm against bombing Gaddafis military (tanks, armoured vehicles etc etc) but I am vehemently opposed to arming the rebels!

Remember when this all kicked off Gaddafi' said the unrest was being caused by Al Queda but it didnt suit the west for that to be true so they decided to ignore it and now its beginning to look like gaddafi was telling the truth....just like Saddam Hussein ....We dont have weapons of mass destruction but it did not stop the west because all they wanted was OIL just like Libya

Who are the rebels? Those the UN believe were once civilians yet also those that could possibly become terrorists. CWL

And yet we dont bother arming the "civilians" in other countries who are protesting and being fired on.
David Cameron has how many months of experience in Government?
I think hes out of his depth here.

I think the question of "oil" being the prominent reason for the west to be involved in Libya is a reasonably valid argument. We all use oil in one way or another and its a vital resource.....if we had less access to it things would get tougher here (in already tough times). Perhaps there is an element of hypocrisy by the Government to emphasize the humanitarian aspect of the intervention.

Aye jazz but just before this uprising we did have access to the oil.I think we might prefer to have control of it tho-much as what happened in Iraq.Once Saddam started selling it in euros- I think-not dollars he was out PDQ.Civilians lives have not changed for the better. And American companies now control the industry. Does anyone seriously believe that should Gaddafi go these protesters who have no experience of maintaining oilfields wont need a little help from their new allies

[quote author=jazz Perhaps there is an element of hypocrisy by the Government to emphasize the humanitarian aspect of the intervention. [/quote] Spot on Jazz the UN or NATO dont give a monkeys about the people or they would be kicking out Governments all over the globe the only countries they have bothered with are the ones with oil. Our leaders are getting away with things the rest of us would get life for

Yes, see both of you're above points.....I only wish that politicians would tell the truth but perhaps thats stretching things too far....we aren't idiots but when confronted, say by the likes of Jeremy Paxman (Newsnight) they squirm & wriggle their way out of it. They would have much more respect off people if they were even reasonably honest!

Well, I still say, get a sniper in Sorted, job done!! ;D Unless we are going to help the rebels, they'll get hammered, so either help them or get the hell out. All this pratting about is getting nowhere, only more people getting killed!!

Is that what we do these days if we change our minds-couple of months back he was the bees knees.Maybe we could do the same to a few others too since we are the good guys and can decide these things.Altho thinking of Cameron the idea becomes strangely attractive

Yep, assassinate him! We should have done that to Saddam in the first Gulf war, then maybe there wouldn't have been a second! It's no use being hypocritical about it, he's causing no end of hassle, we all want shot of him, and I'm sick to death of our service personnel going all over the world, getting blown to bits! So either help the rebels properly, as they won't win on their own, they're fighting amongst themselves now!!! Or get out and let what will happen, happen!

But recently we were the stupid sods keeping him in power Loads of British companies were happy dealing with him-including high street chains like M&S. Now he has to die Well talk about fickle Getting rid of Saddam improved what? Proved what lying snakes we can be for starters.
