From MSN............. A British submarine has fired Tomahawk cruise missiles on Libyan air defence targets as Prime Minister David Cameron sent UK armed forces into action against dictator Muammar Gaddafi. The launch of UK operations was announced by Mr Cameron outside 10 Downing Street after he chaired a meeting of the Government's Cobra emergency committee. Hailing the military action as "necessary, legal and right", the Prime Minister said: "We should not stand aside while this dictator murders his own people". Oh! well, here we go again.............. I thought the UN didnt have the authority to interfere in a countries internal affairs unless the country was committing genocide. All the crimes Gaddafi has committed over the years which would justify the UN getting involved they have to make one up to justify an invasion

CWL I would be as happy as you if he went tonight What i dont want is more British service men/women coming home in body bags fighting another fight that isn't ours The Libyans asked for a no fly zone so did the other Arab countries so why didnt the other Arab Countries put one up they have the aircraft.....No they wont do that because if it went t+ts up they wouldn't have the infidel to blame besides if they turned against a fellow Arab State it would cause hell amongst the ordinary Arab on the street Mugabe is doing worse things then Gaddafi and has been for years but no one wants to know not Europe not America and certainly not the UN ...OH but hang on Mugabe hasn't any oil

Are those same Arab States not part of the UN then? I agree about the use of this nations troops however the only way to stop that from happening is to disband the armed forces altogether in my view. As our elected Politicians will send them where ever they believe they are required no matter what the general public may have to say on the matter. As for what the UN has or has not done regarding Mugabe how is that relevant to what they are doing in the case of Libya, oil or no oil? Just because that organisation has not taken action elsewhere does not mean what they are doing now is incorrect or invalid. CWL

There is one part of that I find astounding. “3. Demands that the Libyan authorities comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, human rights and refugee law and take all measures to protect civilians and meet their basic needs, and to ensure the rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian assistance; Libyan authorities havent been doing this for how many years? I am no fan of Gaddafi by a long chalk but my issue is still the fact that Western Governments constantly turn a blind eye to these things when its convenient to do so. Why are we in the position of having to enforce a no fly zone and provide support to the rebels? In 2008 the Italians agreed to pay Libya 5 billion dollars in compensation. And Gaddafi took part in the G8 summit in 2009. In May, 2010, Libya was elected by the UN General Assembly to a three-year term on the UN's Human Rights Council. Its bloody ridiculous. The man has committed human rights abuses for years and years and admitted to involvement in International Terrorism and still he was accepted. Utter madness.

Which just shows how "useful" UN rules are!! If anyone chooses to ignore them, we do nothing, in fact we continue to sell them arms!!!! Knowing what the bugger is like - never let Human rights get in the way of commercial interests!!!! I don't know why they don't send in a sniper and just take him out!!!! Mind, what happens afterwards god knows! Libya is a "tribal" country in a way that Egypt isn't. What a surprise, he's using civilians as "human shields", knowing we won't bomb them!!!!
