There you go folks, a nice new board for all American sports Hey this is great, hope I don't end up talking with myself. Can't figure out why that Canny bloke whines about rough pineapples. Everyone here's been more than accommodating to us American toon supporters.

Supermac, your being a Flyer fan was wondering your thoughts on my favorite sports movie and possibly Paul Newmans best movie role ever, Slap Shot? You do realize the movie was lampooning the Broad Street Bullies cup winning team or the "team That Couldn't Skate Straight", (except for Rick McLeish). That team set the sport back 10 years.

Everyone here's been more than accommodating to us American toon supporters. As I feared not too many people interested in this thread but I'll throw this interesting bit out. The NY Yankees have their own TV network which shows all their games, (162) through out the season. It's a cable station but it's included in my plan so it costs nothing extra. I live around 110 miles from NYC so we're considered in their viewing area. In the off season, when no baseball is played, Oct - April they need other sports shows to broadcast because it's a 24 hour station. Last year they picked up Gooner TV. They show replays of most Gooner matches and another weekly show called Gooner Life or something like that. I don't know what the relationship between Arsenal and NY Yankees is. I think they just bought the package to fill airtime. The NY Yankees are supposedly the richest sports club in the world with manure coming in second. I don't get the Boston Red Sox network but I'm willing to bet they do the same with Liverpool seeing as they own em. As a side note if your a New York Yankee fan the Boston Red Sox are our mackems. It's a group with a huge inferiority complex when it comes to sports but a area that boasts some of the most prestigious colleges in this country, IE Harvard, MIT etc. By the way the Yankees finished well above the dirty sox this past year and the New York Football Giants beat the New England, (Boston) Patriots in this years Superbowl..............He He He

Western Conference: Vancouver Canucks Don't follow NASCAR............ CWL Ok NFL, San Fran - surprising year, took my Giants to the limit, should be even better next year. My brothers team. I believe Cannyman supports Green Bay or Atlanta's "dirty birds" NBA stopped watching after NY Knicks 72 team, lost interest because the game is so different now. They need to raise the baskets. Boring dunkin stoof. Althought the Knicks have peeked my interest with Lim story, kid out of Harvard, fan favorite. MLB - Yankee fan from a kid, saw Mick Mantle at the end of his career. Nice pick with St. Louie CWL, won World Series but lost Polhols to $$$$$$. Their manager retired, smart guy, had a law degree. Most baseball coaches barely finished high school. NHL - I like the Rangers, have seen them win the Cup once in my lifetime. Toronto is interesting. Mostly english fans but they sit on there hands compared to their arch enemies the HABS fans. Can't ever remember the Leafs winning a cup. Sack their manager every 3-4 years. They had a pretty good coach that had some success, Pat Burns, was a cop or detective before coaching the team. He passed away way to soon. I liked him as a coach. NASCAR - it's a redneck sport. It's not like real racing, Formula 1. They actually race twice a year at Pocono Raceway, about 30 minutes from where I live. I've never been but they pack'em it. People come for the weekend event in Winnebago's, campers etc. They get all boozed up, watch the cars go round and round til they puke. It's a simple sport for the simple minds. probably why it appeals to the southern nit wits. Question, with cable, satellite, Internet how much NFL, NHL, MLB or NBA yer get across the way?

NFL and NBA get pretty decent coverage thanks to ESPN although I tend to record games rather than watch them live. I need my sleep........ NHL I mainly pick up via the Internet although more often than not it involves search for decent highlights. Sometimes games are shown on ESPN but I'm not sure if they are a major network covering the conferences. I can watch games live via the Internet, but same problem as with the others I would have to become a night owl and possibly die from lack of sleep. MLB is just one of those things that doesn't get much coverage over here, mainly I think because of cricket. Also like cricket it's probably better when you are in the ground watching it rather than on TV. I mainly rely on highlights although it can be a pain to find stuff relating to the specific teams I follow. F1 is back soon so possibly another topic of conversation. CWL

Toon, toon toon, there are ye happy? Who the hell is Golden Balls? Ah, Philadelphia the city of my birth, or so it sez so on my birth certificate. The "City of Brotherly Love", yeah right. The absolute worse fans, baseball, football, hockey, basketball and footie in these United States. Not surprised you saw hooligans there. They've been breeding them for years at the Vet now moved to Stinkin Financial Field. Speakin of rowdy behavior should we discuss a certain exiled Geordie's behavior when the Toon visited Orlando Fla during their summer tour? I believe Jonas Spiderman was the victim of a barrage of verbal abuse from a slightly inebriated short arsed grey haired gnome while he was on the pitch, ring any bells? Green Bay Packers? How'd they do against New York Giants in the playoffs?

When my son was in school, he used to like watching American football. We had Sky then, I tried watching it, but could never get to grips with the rules!!! I like baseball though, it's like rounders we used to play in school, and I used to like watching all the bangers racing and crashing into each other.

Mrs. Broon enjoys the baseball games on the summer. When New York plays Boston it can be good theater. Every now and again a pitcher will throw at a batter and the ruckous begins. Besides most of the shows on TV are shite nowdays.

CWL's World Champion St. Louis Cardinals opened the National League season last night beating the Florida Marlins 4-1. Former Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali threw out the first pitch in front of a sold out Miami stadium................David Pleat

Hi Broonman - just to let you know that the Toronto Maple Leafs did win the Cup - it was in 1967 - the year I came to Canada, that's why I remember it. Don't think they've won one since then though Still support them - don't know why?

Don't think they've won one since then though Still support them - don't know why? Did Daryl Sittler play with them then or Lanny McDonald? Can't remember. But then I didn't remember the cup win either.
