Same with us Shadow...last minute thing...thought about a long weekend in Amsterdam on the DFDS ferry....its so near us, the departure point, & we see it passing every day from our window.....& its cheap! Wonder if these VAT rises will affect the trip price? Maybe later in year we'll think of somewhere.

I love Amsterdam-been there a few times myself and I'd recommend the cafes-lots of friendly people in there lol.
Jazz those ferries are beautiful.
Years back when we visited relatives in Germany we used to do the Harwich to Hook of Holland crossing and at the time I thought the ferries were the state of the art-when they introduced the Princess Beatrix it was a wonder compared to the older ones-St.George,St.Edmund and the Julianna.
But couple of years back we were invited to some things on the King and Queen of Scandanavia Ferries out of North Shields and the facilities were fantastic-I recommend them.
Interestingly enough during one of the events I met a senior member of staff who had experience of the Harwich ferries and it was quite touching to discuss those old boats-brought some fond childhood memories back

Re the various ferries out of the Tyne...I remember way back when there were 3 or 4 travelling in and out. These were the "Venus" with a black & white striped funnell (Toon Army!!), the "Blenheim" & the "Braemar"....Bergen Line ran them I think. Also there was the "Parkestan", I think thats the right spelling?.....it went from near Newcastle quayside...I think to Stockholm. Might have a week in Whitley Bay!!!!

nicknack.....I think the "Colour Line" withdrew the route from North Shields to Stavanger, Norway which to me was a great shame.....I thought it would be a profitable, viable service....especially the Norwegians coming over here & spending money at the Metro Centre etc (Xmas in particular). I think the Port of Tyne are actively trying for someone to start it up again........any offers, any boats available?!
