Dunno what we're doing this year, kids will be off to stay with their nana in S/Wales as usual for at least a fortnight in the summer, if we all go down then we usually stay for 4 or 5 days then leave the lads to stay the rest of the time. Other than that it'll probably be just regular days out and about here and there, I've never really been one to want to stay in one place for an entire holiday, usually get bored a few days in.

Im a bit like that so we started to do the Norfolk Broads An absolutly brill holiday you get bored with Great yarmouth you just up anchor and sail to Norwich or some little riverside village that time has forgot. We did it for 10 years and i still want to go back

I fancy that Nick, just meandering down the canals in a longboat, tying up where you want. Does it get busy on the canals?

I fancy that Nick, just meandering down the canals in a longboat, tying up where you want. Does it get busy on the canals? AH.....Ann if when you say longboat you mean a Rose and jim type boat ....Theres none of them and no Locks on the Norfolk Broads . The boats are all cruisers some wouldn't be out of place tied up in Monaco. The last time we went we knew we would not be back for some time so we realy pushed the boat out (pardon the pun) and hired a boat that was 57ft long 6 berth all cabins were on suite dish washer washing machine hoover microwave fully equipped galley echo sounder for catching fish a safe Bow thrusters and you pressed a button in the cockpit the whole centre section of the roof rolled back to leave the cockpit and galley in the open air....Oh and the mud pot (anchor) was electric That cost us £1500 a week but that was divided between 6 paying adults ....Expensive ..yes.... would you enjoy it ...I dont Know all i can say is we did it every year for 10 years and we have not had as much fun in one week since . Take a look at Blake's or Hoseasons websites One other thing Ann theres no canals its all open water ways in places its like sailing down the river tyne but it will knock your socks off just lying on top of your boat watching the wild life

I fancy that Nick, just meandering down the canals in a longboat, tying up where you want. Does it get busy on the canals? Tried that 6 years ago. Brilliant. Middle of June so there wern't too many boats about and the weather was perfect. just as well as it is probably not much fun being stuck alone at the stern of a 60 footer if it rains. We did the Stourbridge Ring in The Midlands which meant we were spared the boredom of sailing to and from along the same route. Met lots of nice people along the way and many smashing pubs. Good exercise at the locks (sluices) as well. Would really recommend a week on the canals.!!!!!

Ah but Fares the Stourbridge Ring is a Canal the Norfolk Broads are open water ways you can turn a 60 footer in mid stream and no locks which means you can travel further in a day but your right about the fun factor saying that i would not tell anyone to do it because i had a brill time but i would say try it you will love it or hate it in fact go to Wroxham which is the capital of the broads for the day and you can hire small day boats try that and if you get the bug your off

My jollies are well and truly booked. I'm going to go for plenty of long runs along the Bystrzyca River here in Lublin. It's green and lovely, and a perfect paradise for runners when it's hot and sunny. All I have to do is walk out of my home and I'm there. Running is awesome, and people who don't do it, just don't know what they're missing.

Apart from that we could have three weeks A/I in Turkey for the same price, so really there's no contest. But (watch out for dreadful pun) what ever floats your boat. I'll get my coat.

Never done a boating holiday, had a trip on the broads though as a kid - we had a holiday in a place called Stalham in Norfolk, checked out Norwich, G'Yarmouth, Sutton (with it's windmill) and a whole load of little villages, lovely area. Last actual holiday at a fixed location for a couple of weeks I ever took was with my folks in the late 1980's, went to the Isle of Wight - I only tagged along so I could take my fishing gear with me so didn't really see a lot of the island, was still a nice place for what I did see of it - usually from the inside of a pub after a days fishing!!!
