Awesome story Natt.......I knew you had some Ashington in you.....I could just tell......its where you get your passion from.........My mother was born in 1923 in Ashington .......Maiden name Johnson....who knows ..........we could even be distant relatives..........Have you been over here? Sadly I've only been in England once in my life and that was 26 years ago when I was three years old. Only visited London too. As soon as I can however, I will definitely go there. Can't say if I should be terrified or not over the prospect of being relatives or not. The father, whom I think was called Thomas Russell, I think just arrived to Ashington. Coming there in hopes of working in the coal mines. The mother's first name I can't remember. But her last name was McSherry. She also had relatives in England with the name Foley... though where they lived I don't know. Her two sisters' names were Rose who later moved here too and, I think, Mary-Jane. I also think her brother's name was Albert and the only thing I know about him is that he moved to Australia. But I guess that you might be right about that it is the Ashington in me that makes me sharing the joy and frustration with you all over this very special club. Well said sir.....and thanks for opening up on the family. Even though the links are tenuous........you can be my brother!

Remember they played three nights and I was there for the second evening, possibly a Wednesday. Then again that may have been another concert entirely.....Floyd, Humble Pie, Faces..... Memory being what it is and having seen them a few times since, I'm not sure what they played that night to be honest, but regardless still one of the best bands I have seen live though..... That saying about 'I may be old, but got to see all the best bands first' has a ring of truth to it. As for The Junco's never saw the original line up, but caught them later on in the seventies when the played on the quayside. Think they had a residency at The Cooperage which was one of the places at the time for live music from local bands. Next up will be which pubs did you drink in on match day..... before you left the country that is.... WL Interesting you liked Steve Marriott....still my hero even though burned alive in a cottage near where we lived in Suffolk......Original mod ...Small Faces forever.......what a voice though.... Canny........i seen Humble Pie in NYC, Fillmore East with Marriott, Framton and the rest..........shame about Marriot always thought all that speed he did would kill him. Great thread thou you guys saw all these bands in there early stanges and then I saw them on tour in the States. Fer me it was always YES..........Seen in dozens of times and maybe ten years ago took my son to see em in Philly. They did Starship Trooper for an encore and my son was speechless until we got back to the car. ;D

Some us here are of the same generation and shared the MUSIC REVOLUTION of the sixties and seventies. Have not seen anything like it since. Most of the great bands of our times come from UK and a few from US. Should start a new thread on bands we saw growing up during that time but should it go up above the footie section?

Hey talking about bands and concerts here I got a good one. I was at Woodstock.............well sort of. Was 17 working a summer job in the Catskill Mtns of New York, about 30 minutes from the site. On the second day a few of my buddies heard what was going on said let's drive over and see what it's all about. So 4 of us drove there but you couldn't get close.......cars parked all over hell's half acre. Plus it was raining cats and dogs and it was a 2 mile hike too the site on muddy roads and such so we passed. Had I known would have made the trek.........it was historic

It's the C Mans thread so I guess he should decide if it's moved or not..... Broon, if you fancy discussing bands you saw while growing up then I suggest it goes on the music section although I'm okay with it here if it keeps people interested. On that note here's a starter for ten..... literally. Led Zeppelin The Who Free Argent Queen Pink Floyd Genesis Black Sabbath Rainbow Yes All British and quite a few more to add. I'll also keep the American, Canadian and European ones for later. WL

I'm okay with it staying here Canny as it's mainly more banter among the footie crowd anyway, although I guess it's open to all. Not as if we can meet regularly at home games to chew the fat....over a few beers. That aside it's all good stuff and keeps this section alive. Also seen both Jethro Tull and Rory Gallagher..... WL
