True. But I doubt well tempt debuchy or van der Weil with any less than he's asking for and the 5-6 million we will have to put down to sign him. I'd like to see shawcross or Dawson brought in

According to the lads at TRue Faith Polly he has arrived for a medical but he still needs to discuss personal terms with AP yet! Toon still hopeful of signing him in time for Saturday's start to the season against the Spuds

It appears this morning some stories just don't want to go away quietly... The Douglas saga continues and if you believe many of the reports in the media it's a straight choice for him between either joining The Mags or Fulham. Although the Craven Cottagers do appear favourites despite several suggestions neither Club has actually made a bid for the player. Next up is another long running player connection involving Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho. Once again The Toon are being linked with the 24 year old Frenchman despite him heavily being touted as going to La Liga and Valencia. Finally we have another scare story involving Mr T who apparently is now wanted by Arsenal. As with most of this kind of report details are extremely vague to say the least. Mind you the best one I read this morning was on the ClubCall site which stated Anita was jetting in to complete his transfer. Better late than never I guess... CWL Expect a lot more waste of ink between now and next Friday when the transfer window closes.

Am I the only one who feel a bit hesitant about Douglas? He seems to be a blunder and a red card just waiting to happen... a Bramble with anger issues if you will. Of all the Toon players I don't think there has been as much rumours for anyone as there has been for Tioté... everyone has him on the top of their lists, but no one even wants to bid for him. What? We have signed Anita already? Maybe time passes slower at that ClubCall site?

According to that source of all things Black & White and Lamb*****d's favourite rag The Daily Snail The Toon are back looking at Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. The lad recently reported as saying he wouldn't mind coming to us as a stepping stone to Milan (can't remember whether it was Inter or AC). Possibly the perfect buy for Mikey knowing he would be able to sell on at a profit should the player be a success. CWL

Despite the opening of the next transfer window still being two months away the rumour machine among the media appears to know no limits.... Newcastle are now being linked with the following... Incoming: 31-year-old Brede Hangeland who is yet to sign a new deal with Fulham. However, despite lengthy negotiations that have lasted almost six months, Hangeland is no closer to renewing his contract, and Jol admits he is worried the centre back could be on the way out. As much as I have admired the big defender for a long time I just don't see him coming to The Toon. Next up is 29-year-old Jeremie Aliadiere. The former Arsenal and Smoggies forward, who has more knee problems than Demba Ba and struggled to find himself a Club during the summer. For some bizarre reason this one has risen it's head over the weekend. Not a cat in hells chance! Doing the rounds on News Now and following on with another French connection is that Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has denied claims that the club have agreed a deal to sign the Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Sissoko, 23, is in the last year of his current contract with Toulouse, meaning clubs outside France would be able to speak to him on January 1. Reports late on Sunday claimed Newcastle had already agreed to sign the combative midfielder, but Pardew said it was "news to me" when asked about the reports after his side's late win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. This one may have legs and the player would be a welcome addition to our squad in my view. Outgoing: Demba Ba is linked just about every day with someone or other..... although The Red Scousers appear to be the main Club mentioned as his intended destination. As far as I'm concerned reached the point if it happens, then it happens... Mind you the bin lidders not being content with taking Ba off our hands are now being linked to his miss firing strike partner Papiss Cisse. They may well have competition however in the shape of Spurs. Can't wait to see what fee Mikey puts on his head... Last but not least it appears Arsene Whinger fancies taking Hatem Ben Arfa doon Sooth should Theo do a bunk from the Emirates. Could be an interesting January if those three happen. WL
