Well said Wile_E It is an abhorrent treatment of fish in the name of vanity!

Wile_E, these fish are hardened streetwise hunter/gatherers, not spoiled preenies like your goldfish. They are actually the big winners in this, getting loads of lovely foot-meat for nothing. And it's a recession. The people I feel sorry for are the nincompoops who pay good money to give their foot meat away.

I think that you are missing the point Nick, the fish eat what is available to them, and can be poisoned in the process. Do you really agree with that?

lol, I think all my Botia and Synodontis would have a fair old barney with them, chances are they'd eat them But really though, Kit is bang on, it's not what they're eating that is the problem, it's what those feet have been in contact with along with any other bacteria on them, along with the stress factor that is the problem here.

kitt, surely fish are going to come into contact with feet, and worse things to boot. I mean, what about when people paddle in rock pools. Should that be banned?

Oh behave Nick, that is no comparison at all, the fish in that scenario have their own food source, and place to escape to in a natural environment......your argument on this issue is pointless with me.
Remind me how much bp were sued for due to the oil leak, which devastated wildlife and coastlines alike?

These fish are tiny. They were probably bread for this particular purpose.

In Egypt you step into the water and the same thing happens there. fish of all different shapes and colours are all around your feet, it a beautiful sight. When a shark attacked and killed some one about a mile away we needed no persuading to keep out of the water.

Dogs and ahem cocks have a certain level of sensitivity. Those tiny fish are not bothered one way or another, and as milkhope's Egypt recount tells us, they charge human feet in natural environments as well as in these basins.
There are serious issues in the world, but this one isn't one of them, in my humble opinion.

I am actually very shocked at some of the posts on this issue, actually baffled in fact, but I guess that is what makes a healthy debate.

Can you clarify to me Nick that you are saying that the welfare of any animal including fish is not to be taken seriously? I agree there are serious issues in the world and you will find them on others threads, this thread is about feet fish!

If people want little fishies to nibble on their feet - I really don't care, one way or another. Personally I wouldn't do it - but does anyone think a fish would feed on something that would endanger its life?

Do you think it's cruel to keep goldfish in a bowl?
