i was at the Metro centre today and across from WH Smith next to the Orange phone shop there was a shop full of fish tanks with loads of little fish in them, people were sitting on chairs with their feet in the tanks and the fish were nibbling at their feet, poor fish, are people too lazy to clean their own feet now.

Well, I'm sure the fish are enjoying it. Nothing like a good strong-smelling foot, preferable just after a marathon. As for the benefits to humans, I've a feeling the chief beneficiary is the wallets of the organisers.

I was there when that shop opened and immediately called the RSPCA! Not surprisingly they have had many calls to report cruelty as this company spreads across the country. The conditions that the fish are kept in are very different from the natural "ponds" that you get in foreign countries. The environment is not natural to them, they are at risk of poisoning through chemicals already on the feet that are not necessarily washed off before entering the tank. Yet another example of vanity over sanity! If you disagree with makeup products being tested on animals, is there much of a difference? Of course the fish seem to enjoy it, it is their only food source and lets face it, they have lots of rivalry within those tanks to get food! The whole thing disgusts me greatly and I hope the RSPCA eventually have them all shut down! What does the Animal Welfare Act do? It makes owners and keepers responsible for ensuring that the welfare needs of their animals are met. These include the need: •For a suitable environment (place to live) (failed miserably there)•For a suitable diet ( in who's opinion is foot canker a suitable diet?)•To exhibit normal behaviour patterns (impossible)•To be housed with, or apart from, other animals (if applicable) •To be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease ( again impossible)Anyone who is cruel to an animal, or does not provide for its welfare needs, may be banned from owning animals, fined up to £20,000 and/or sent to prison.

ahh nothing like a nice load of pollutants in the aquarium water and putting the fish under stress to give them any number of illnesses. I'm rigorous in cleaning my hands and arms very carefully and rinsing them well before even thinking about putting my hands in my aquariums, some of my fish cost a small fortune to start with and I've had them a fair few years, wouldn't dream of risking losing them through doing something stupid.
