And now for something completely different........................... Time to rev up this old thread in light of the upcoming Canny and Broon “trip to Geordie Nation”! Yesterday I received a text message that simply said “feel the need fer Waldo’s”. Normally I would have switched gears as to whatever I was occupied with and formulated a plan as how to break the news gently to Mrs. Broon. Now as much as I enjoy watching Cannyokie serenading obese women, chasing young d*ckheads about and p*sssin on lightpoles yesterday was much different. I was deeply involved in a time honored tradition that in my family is fishing the opening day of trout season. I am lucky enough to have a cottage owned by my folks on a beautiful lake deep in the Pennsylvania Alps or more commonly known as the Pocono Mountains. Opening day marks the reopening of the cottage which is shut down for the winter. Boats are launched and the family gathers for the weekend. This year’s ensemble included my mom and dad, well into their 80’s, my younger brother, his 12 year old son and myself. The lake is a deep spring fed body of water that holds state stocked brown, rainbow and brook trout ranging from 10 to 25 inches. Cannyman has fished here with me many times over the years more so when he lived in the area. Indeed there have been a few training sessions at Waldo’s after a day on the lake. Somehow the Ale goes down quicker after a day on the water, especially if the cooler is filled with that night’s dinner. One of the things I look forward to our trip over is sampling the fish n chips from some of your local establishments. Any suggestions would be most welcome as it’s a favorite meal of mine. I had to call Canny back and decline the Waldo’s offer as I was tasked with teaching my nephew the finer points of trout angling on our lake. Poor guy Canny was at work and I could detect a bit of jealousy in his tone as I know how much he enjoys fishing. There’s a saying here, “a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work”. Well we had a great day caught 3 brookies and a rainbow. We also caught a couple of smallmouth bass but as they are not yet in season they had to be released. My mom who’s had plenty of experience cooking fresh trout over the years prepared a grand meal and we all enjoyed the days catch. As much as I enjoy the training sessions at Waldo’s, days like yesterday are too few and far between. Spending time with the younger generation and passing on the “old man” fishing tricks that I’ve acquired over the years was much more rewarding. For any readers of this thread that would be interested in witnessing the wonders of” Cannyokie”, perhaps a singing pub in Newcastle could be suggested fer a night oot. I guarantee if there’s ale, singin, Broon and Canny a good time would be had by all. Cheers, Broon……. (no relation to D. Pleat) Attachments:

Leazes you may well be correct that it will involve fluids or in the case of Canny Goat talking gibberish as a direct result of too much intake of North East beverages........ CWL
