As much as I hate to say it whatever system APee is trying to use with Ben Arfa in the side it doesn't appear to be working. Best was shoved out wide left too much during that first half leaving Shola isolated. Not helped one bit by Jonas and Hatem getting in each others way while Danny and Raylor sat too deep. Once APee changed it around at half time the side had a better shape to it and the players looked more comfortable. Capt'n I'm not getting that bothered about how Best and Stroller play as everyone knows come Sunday neither will be starting the game if Ba and Cisse are fit. Having reached the heady heights of fifth again I'll gladly take the three points and move on. CWL

Unfortunately Ben Arfa, good as he can be at times, is not a team player. He demonstrated this several times this evening. Perch, for once didn't do too badly at all when he came on and to give credit where credit is due (as is my wont) it was a beautifully weighted pass from Løvencrap that put Oberwhatsit through on goal. PS. IMO

Fairsy have to admit despite Perch never being one of my favourite players he has performed very well during the last two games. Much better suited to the defensive midfield slot than either Danny or Raylor. Hatem is so gifted yet like many others of his kind can just as easily frustrate the hell out of supporters as excite them. I can only imagine the trip back to Tyneside tonight will be far more satisfying for the squad than it was coming back from Brighton. CWL

The feelgood factor is returning. (doesn't take much for us oldies )

Okay Blackburn are not the best team in the division as the league table proves however they still had to be beaten. Had The Toon lost tonight I could have seen a run of bad results follow (may still happen of course), yet they didn't and without doubt that will give everyone associated with The Club a huge lift. Supporters will be champing at the bit to see Ba and Cisse do the business at the weekend. Another solid win against Villa will put the team in very good spirits before a stern test against Spurs. Age has nothing to do with it I just like to see my team win. If they can do it with a bit of style then great and all the more satisfying. If not and they have to grind out a result well sometimes that's the name of the game. CWL

Not sure how The Toon have managed to go in one nil to the good at half time however they are................. Best has been closer to scoring in his own goal than he has Blackburns. Forward line has been woeful..................midfield not much better. Perhaps lady luck hasn't deserted The Mags quite entirely. CWL What he sees in Best and Ameobi is beyond me . Pictures with farm animals, accoring to Cannyman

It also highlights the difference Lovenkrands and Obertan made in one movement than Best and his mate have done while Ba has been away.

Shola and Best or Løvencrap and Obertan - Six of one and half a dozen of the other. The latter two were more effective yesterday due to fresh legs against tired Blackburn players. Still a good through ball tho' Obertan has been as good as useless in the games he had from start.

It also highlights the difference Lovenkrands and Obertan made in one movement than Best and his mate have done while Ba has been away. Capt'n Best and Stroller get the nod up front as our forward line is too light weight physically without them in a game such as against Blackburn. Despite messing about with a 4 2 3 1 formation APee really prefers his 4 4 2 so I just don't see Ben Arfa playing along side or off a lone front man. That forward line last night doesn't have enough mobility or pace up front to play 4 3 3. Which only really leaves the option to put him out wide. Trouble is he drifts about the field on occasions and is often caught in possession. No doubt he is a huge talent but presents a dilemma in where to fit him in. I just don't see any point in playing the lad when it clearly isn't working for both him and the team. Last night was just such a situation. Hats off to both Loverboy and Gabi for the goal, however neither of them have managed to really push for or cement a place in the side. Of the two IMO Obertan possibly has the better chance of making a return to the starting eleven. His goal may well give him a big enough confidence boost to now show everyone what he can really do. CWL Yeah, I think it was the way Fulham carved us open that made me think that was the way to attack, using a more direct method rather than using two imobile forwards. The through ball played by Lovenkrands was a perfect illustration of that. I realise things will change with Ba and Cisse in the team but they are not comparable with the way we have played while Ba has been away. The important thing is we have kept our position in the league that is a huge step forward hopefully it will continue against Villa. ATB

ATB Too true Captain and this after having played against all the supposedly toughest teams and losing two of our best players to ACoN. No-one believed it possible beforehand - why do I have a sneaking feeling that someone (guess who) will pop up and say "I told you so" ?
