Most of the news today will be about a certain Joey Barton receiving a free transfer from our most benevolent owner. Made me think just exactly what do I believe is going on here...... Is Joey really a hero of the Toon Army for speaking his mind about Big Bad Ashley the business man and multi millionaire that pays his wages?............... ...............or as described by quite a few people: great footballer but a complete dip stick when it comes to anything else? (Probably closer to the mark for me.) Is there any truth in the reports he has been working his ticket inside the dressing room and elsewhere since his contract negotiations fell apart? Just how much influence is his agent playing in all of this as Willie McKay also has previous with The Toon? After a long hard think is Losing Barton Really Such A Blow? From what I have read on forums and blogs there appears to be a lot of varied opinion from Newcastle fans around Barton being made available on a free from Newcastle. On one level I can understand it as we are losing another good player, however parts of his rant I just don't get when it comes to building a team. Barton has thrown his dummy out big time as he no longer has as much influence in the dressing room and possibly on the pitch. You gain that through mutual respect and not by shouting your mouth off at all and sundry. Is it also because he has lost two of his best allies in pal Kevin Nolan and team mate Andy Carroll? He has also questioned the Clubs transfer policy. Okay it has not set the world on fire, however barring the left back and main striker positions it's also not as bad as being made out. If you look at the summer's transfer dealings in isolation, Newcastle sold Kevin Nolan and bought in Yohan Cabaye, from a near ever-present run with French champions Lille, Sylvain Marveaux, who was wanted by Liverpool, and Demba Ba, who managed to look decent for West Ham in a six-month spell that saw him score 7 in 12. For me even though new to the league Cabaye the Lad and Marvelous Marveaux will do okay against most sides outside of the top five. Ba has something to prove and a lot will depend upon who plays along side him and whether he can stay injury free. Mind you that can also be said of Shola................... With a month to go before the window closes to my mind that leaves us very much in credit and still with time left to do further deals as the 31st draws closer. Barton's tweet shows a man very dissatisfied with the transfer dealings at Newcastle. However, from what I witnessed of the team last season something needed to be done. Joey Barton was part of a trio of players that worked extremely well together until the sale of Andy Carroll - for a ridiculous price. Andy's departure clearly reduced the effectiveness of the remaining two. Before Carroll's sale Nolan scored 10 goals and assisted 1 (in 23 games), afterwards 2 goals and no assists (in 15 games). Barton stats also suffered, before the sale he scored 2 goals and assisted 6, afterwards 2 goals (both penalties in the 4-4 against the Gooners) and assisted 3. Without Andy Carroll, the Toon desperately needed to change their attacking outlet and the three signings above with the returning Ben Arfa, Gosling, main stays of Gutierrez, Tiote and the strong probability of one more striker suggested that they are possibly learning lessons. This was further demonstrated with the transfer of Nolan when age and contract length demands, resulted in a move which although disappointing from a supporters perspective is perhaps understandable from the Owners point of view. That's not to say I would have possibly done the same. However we are well into pre season with two weeks before The Gooners arrive at SJP. The injury to Hatem is a blow and obviously until NUFC do sign a striker nothing is proven. I like Joey as a player, but Barton has a questionable attitude and I just cannot get rid of the idea he is using the fans distrust and hatred of Mikey to his full advantage. Will The Mags miss Barton.................well probably yes on the pitch, however perhaps not as much as the player's agent is actually making out. Suicide to let him go I think not! How ironic it would be if this situation with Barton becomes the catalyst for Mikey to finally loosen the purse strings. Now that would shock me................ CWL

CWL If nothing else had happened during Ashley`s reign I might have agreed to a point but this is just another home made debacle created by Ashley himself, ask yourself if it were your club what would you do? My answer would be to sit down with the player and have a man to man discussion, but Ashley is renowned for taking no notice whatsoever of anyone. Just look at his shareholder meetings if you need to find out what the man is about, read what his attitude is like when he is confronted, he is a bully and totally entrenched in himself he listens to no-one he cares even less . atb

Must agree with you Capt. If it was in isolation, I'd say he was just kicking off, but taken with everything else, I don't blame him for having a rant!!! I just wish all the others and Pardue, had the guts to tell it like it is!!!

I have also read a number of reports recently about his battles and bully boy tactics with the Chairman of Blacks, ex Man Citeh man David Bernstein. The more I think and look at this situation the more I believe it's like two goats bashing heads to see which one is harder. However in this case there was only ever going to be one outcome.......................... What really bugs the hell out of me is not what Barton has said via twitter, but why it took something like this for Mikey to finally say enough is enough. Why a free? The list is pretty long when it comes to Bartons failings and for me he should have gone two years ago. Also Lambsarse is getting away with blue murder................ CWL

I just wish all the others and Pardue, had the guts to tell it like it is!!! Interesting aspect to telling it like it is though Ann................... would anyone actually believe them if they said Joey was just stirring it because his agent wants him to leave now or everything is fine inside the camp? I very much doubt it.............. We are all looking at this from the outside trying to get an idea of what is happening not helped of course by the non communications from SJP. It's that aspect linked to the previous lies spouted by this regime that gives a degree of credence to the Barton rant and nothing more. As Captain M said it's still all a mess no matter who you believe and unlikely to change for the better soon enough for most supporters. CWL

Spotted this today and thought it deserved a post............ Joey, if you’re hurting so am I . . . a bit
Joey Barton is a yob-turned-hipster, who hangs out with members of Elbow and tweets self importantly about club life and being a misunderstood soul.
The only wonder is it has taken this long for Newcastle United to have had enough of him.
The final straw, it seems, was Barton using Twitter to out discord in the dressing room, which – seeing as he was the source of the discord in the first place – is a bit like Megan Fox tweeting about the crew hating the cast on the set of whatever movie involving robots she is working on at the moment.
Mind you, if being a twit on Twitter is a sackable offense, then 99.97 per cent of the people who use Twitter should be worried, especially the ones who actually have jobs.
So unimpressed was Barton with his dismissal he called upon the words of George Orwell to intimate themes of deceit, truth, rebellion and blah, blah, blah . . . yes Joey, The Circus can use Google too. Here’s a quote it found from Orwell:
“Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence.”
Considering Barton’s past, it may have been a more appropriate offering and, considering Orwell’s grasp of what serious sport is all about, perhaps Newcastle should not have sacked him but made him captain.Magic................. CWL

CWL What if..S*** Pardew had fallen out with the gang who brought the players together after relegation and created the team spirit which help get us prompted? It was with their determined backing of Hughton that gave the players the impetus to achieve that. The gang/group contained Nolan, Barton, Enrique, Harper and Collo. (as far as I can remember) now with the ringleader gone, (Nolan) Enrique on his way, Barton on a free, now to find strong rumours that they are after the hapless Rob Green!? Does that mean that Pardew is determined to smash up the group that made it all happen? ATB

I'm convinced APee is doing nothing other than what Mikey tells him to do................ Don't believe Colo was as influential in the dressing room as some of the others mentioned. Although one person, Alan Smith, who was one of the main men has been very quiet of late. As for the Green story it begs the question why would they want to sell him and why on earth would NUFC want to buy him? The last bloody player we need is an f.....ing goalkeeper. CWL
