Anybody can google there local council and find out what has gone on at the meetings and such ,then comment on here with it ,but it does'nt make them a councillor.

Then on this issue, I will have to agree to disagree, because in my opinion, if a thread is created that a councillor can put another angle on because of inside information, however, he posts that information anonymously, that I believe is deceptive.

And it's civilised shads I actually agree with you Kit, if a councillor is going to comment on anything pertaining to the council, then, like MP's who have to declare an interest in things, then so should councillors or keep quiet and not post on such threads. I haven't got a problem at all with them posting on things that have nowt to do with council business anon.

Thats what I told em, at the end of the day, it dont affect us, its just a discussion, why some of them had to retreat to giving personal abuse is beyond me, and really quite laughable! ;D

After all that has been said on this thread i still cant see the
problem .
All posters should post anon if they choose. If they are a councilor
and start to use their knowledge to put a point across it would only be fair they explain why and how they know.
If they dont they will soon be sussed out


A while ago there was a thread running on the old EC about
CCTV a few of the posters knew nothing on the subject and
were talking rubbish I piped up and was asked how i knew
and i told them i used to be an enforcement officer with
Newcastle City Council and the running of the CCTV was part
of my duties ...Now as far as i am concerned that scenario
is exactly the same as if i were a councillor

That's what I mean Nick!!! If they are just posting about general things e.g state of the economy or foreign policy etc then post anon. But if they post on threads that are about council stuff, then they should declare an interest! Not necessarily naming themselves, but certainly saying they are a councillor with whatever council is under discussion. Otherwise what will happen is what's happening on the EG forum!!! Everyone going off it trying to out people and all the mud slinging!!!!

Councillors shouldn't remain anon. They hold public office and people should have the chance to decide if their views are personal or the party line.
This also applies to MP's and PPC's

We had vastly different opinions on race but there was a side to him I liked too.

However racist posts will not be tolerated on here.
