If they have nothing to hide, once they see how the people on this forum conduct themselves why should they remain annonymous.

I was going to say something similar to paddy-oops I meant nick lol.
But seriously I dont think we can insist that councillors in particular have to state their occupation on an anonymous board. They have as much right surely as any other member to remain anonymous and post as they wish.People in any profession or from any political leaning can join a public board and post and I have never agreed with outing people on forums.
Should a person choose to identify themselves or state their profession-well thats a different matter.
I would hope that if a councillor or member of a political party or whatever wanted to post as a representative of what they are representing-does that make sense?-then they could feel that they could and of course expect to be questioned or challenged.

The problem with councillors posting anon to me, is they could say anything!!! They could be saying one thing on the forum and do and say something completely different with the "councillors hat" on! If they have total belief in what they do and think, then they shouldn't be afraid to go on a forum and put their name to their beliefs!!!

I'm not getting any of your logic......................if a councillor is commenting on political threads which affect his/her area, but annonymously, with most likely a heads up on the situation, I think it is deceptive....fine if they are anon and state their fav joke or song..........its just not right!

If someone posted the weekly lottery results before they happened and the numbers came up trumps but you decided not to listen to them and continued to put your own numbers on, then it was disclosed that the said person worked for camelot, would you feel differently???

If they have total belief in what they do and think, then they shouldn't be afraid to go on a forum and put their name to their beliefs!!! Well yes-in a way they can say anything as can we all.How can I explain my thinking here...? Right-if I were the head of say the Health Authority and had an extremely important and influential job-would it not be inconceivable that on a night time-on leaving the office constrained by rules and regulations and wanting to relax I might join a forum as me-not my official position, but me and want to join in some anonymous conversation? I might join in some banter, post on the topics generally then see a topic that did relate to my work and get tempted to join in and perhaps get a bit more involved in the discussion than I wanted to-displaying some expertise in that area inadvertantly. Suddenly people go-hang on you know too much and start looking at me funny.Next thing they want to know exactly who I am since Im posting on say some aspect of the health authority. Next thing Im supposed to say exactly who I am on a public forum. I have no idea what actually happened on the EG forum but Ive seen the result of it and it looks unpleasant. Im very wary of going down that road.

Yes, I see what you mean shads, but I think it's alright if you just keep to topics that have nothing to do with your "day job". But if anyone is going to comment on anything that they have "inside" knowledge of, then they should "declare" or not post at all IYSWIM.

Im not seeing the comparison kitt? The comparison is the fact that they have inside knowledge as to the results of the lottery, and if you decided not to take their advice, but others decided to gamble the numbers and won, how would you then feel about someone in the know, posting anonymously or publicly about their theories?

You shouldn't say anything at all Kit, unless you are prepared to say how and why you know. The first aid thingio is different, it's not a job, unless you're a paramedic and even then you should say so, otherwise how is anyone to know whether the advise is duff or not?

All im trying to say is that if you have expertise or an insight into information, you should make that apparent, instead of pretending to be just another member of public.

That would be down to individual choice. If you were posting anonymously and you happened to be a councillor then the decision is yours. We are all in the position of giving as much or little information as forums as we chose at the end of the day.Personally Ive been honest on the EC as to who I was down to my name, address and telephone number but Ive also had to take the consequences of that as have a couple of other people. I dont agree with compelling people to reveal exactly who they are
