£650 million to Pakistan for education, every service in this country is getting cut, people are losing their jobs, were struggling to make ends meet while paying through the nose for gas, electric, petrol, we in this country have to tighten our belts but our government happily gives away £650 miilion that could be well used here, why dont those who get voted into power ever think, get your own house in order first. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1373478/David-Cameron-Pakistan-650m-spend-education.html

I'm guessing this isnt "extra money" so to speak but part of a budget for financial aid that is sort of laid to one side.I'm not against overseas aid at all-my view is that we are all citizens of the same planet and if there is great need then it should be given. However I think that the aid we give should be because it is needed and for the benefit of the people of that country.Pakistan receives a great deal of foreign aid-its not just Britain contributing-the US has contributed billions of dollars in aid and one has to wonder why when so many other countries struggle also they dont appear to get the same support. It seems to be the same old thing-the US is paying in order to reimburse Pakistan for its support of the US military operations in Afghanistan. I heard today that we are paying for education so that recruits into the Taliban will hopefully be discouraged-Hmmm At a time when young people in this country are also becoming disillusioned-worries about University Fees, worries about jobs, school improvements being cancelled left right and centre-let alone the worries we have as adults about rising costs, job losses etc-to proudly announce this aid package as Cameron did today does not sit well. Added to the fact that whilst we are actively involved in both Libya and Afghanistan cuts are being announced in military personnel and we are told theres no money.Clearly there is some money-but only for some things.

You know what gets me? We are all supposed to be in this together yet we are supposed to rejoice that we are giving aid when people are losing their jobs here. Then there was the story about Justin King (CEO of Sainsburys) putting half of his 4 mill share in Sainsbury in his wifes' name, to avoid paying tax!!! All perfectly legal, but morally it stinks!! Then the bankers get their bonuses, and Joe Public is supposed to sit back and take all that this gov shower is chucking at us!! Why the hell do we put up with it??? People like Justin King and the bankers should be reigned in bloody sharp. In it together, my alpha!! (Good idea of Leazes to use the NATO alphabet

In it together? Yeah well thats right enough for some of us and I know what we are in too Can Cameron and Clegg manage to show any more insensitivity to ordinary peoples worries?Over the last few days its almost like we are having our noses rubbed in it. You cant tell people theres no money left then start spending millions and billions of pounds elsewhere

Well exactly!!! This is what gets me too, they haven't an ounce of empathy with those who are struggling, no, perish the thought, so long as the likes of King and the bankers get a few more quid!! What the hell is wrong with people, that they want more and more?? Is 4 mill not enough? I'm going for a tab to calm myself down!!!!!

I think it is about time some of these other countries started to act like we do. We seem to want to be known as the benevolent saviour of the world which is genuinely a great thing to be. But according to Cameron/Clegg we are desperately short of money. I would like to know exactly how this aid money is distributed and spent. Is this cash accountable......does it try to solve problems or help the people its supposed to? Does anyone check? Is there a bottomless pit of cash always available to "help".......does it ever run out? I would like to see a TV report by the government every now and then to actually show how, where and when our "aid" has been used and has it made "a difference"? It perhaps might make us feel better if we "saw" how our money was spent especially in the light of all the economic misery going on here now.

It may seem crazy at first glance to give so much to developing/third world countries, but there is a simple equation. Aid equals influence - influence equals trade. It maybe mostly arms and oil but that's the way of the world.

aid equals influence - influence equals trade, does that mean Pakistan are going to give us another load of shopkeepers.

aid equals influence - influence equals trade, does that mean Pakistan are going to give us another load of shopkeepers. More likely Terrorists Skint. How many times have we heard of aid going to underdeveloped countries and it never gets to the people who need it and if they do its a only a fraction of what was given to them because some bureaucrat has creamed a bit off at every stage of the allocation process.... I make it Sounds like our NHS
