Aye, our council have increased their charges as well They have to recoup the lost revenue from the gov somehow, so yet again Joe Public pays the price!!! From April, the library is starting to charge 50p per request as well, it's going to cost me a bloody fortune!!! I've got £4.50's worth ready to put in already!!!! But TBH, I don't mind, I'd rather that than have it close or hours cut. Give it a couple of months or so, and then we'll really see what this dammed government has done!!

Been cutting down trees, branches etc in my brother's garden recently...still a bit to go before its finished. It was like a jungle! My brother just hauled the vegetation, logs on to a nearby field which is surrounded by a ditch and hawthorn trees so thats where he put the stuff.....good for nature, and, of course, eventually it will rot away. As for the proper rubbish removal charges its ridiculous what you have to pay!

Polly-if its something like window frames or a bathroom suite it goes up to £30.00 round here If you dont drive youre right over a barrel-but if you do you can hire a van for a day cheaper than it costs to to get the bulky rubbish truck round. We do have a scrap bloke comes round weekly and hes taken some of my stuff in the past for nowt-dont begrudge him making a bob or two but so far hes resisted the mattress and wardrobe. I do resent giving money to the council because I already do it every bloody month.

A family friend wanted to move some stuff out of a flat he was renovating and got some of his lads to take the rubbish to the skip but for some reason he needed a license, he offered to buy a license but was then told it'd take 6 weeks to arrive!
I dunno if that's exactly how it happened but the long and short of it is that he offered to buy a £160 license but was told it would take 6 weeks and ended just having it dumped... Which is bad but councils encourage this sort of behaviour with their fecked up rules :/

Round here you need some permit if you want to drive a van into the incinerator dan-I think its free but you arent allowed in without it.Its got to have the exact details of the vehicle being used and its valid for one trip from what I can see. Ive noticed a hell of alot more waste being dumped round here recently and I can only see things getting worse.I dont understand how we are paying more now when surely councils are making money out of this recycling lark We recycle and sort stuff out,we drag the bins to the kerb and back,we drive our excess rubbish to the incineraters,we hump it up the stairs so wheres the money going?

Councils only do these recycling programs because the EU dictates we must, if councils fail to meet a certain quota or whatever they are fined :/
I can't remember the ins and outs of it and I really cba to look it up

Normally I'd have a google too but thats gonna have to wait for another day-not too good on about 4 hours sleep Ok-I can accept that the EU might make quotas but I still dont get all the stupid rules around waste disposal. Im a council tenant and Ive argued with the council for years regarding bin size for example. We regularly have excess bags come bin day and I requested a bigger bin-thats not allowed cos as a familly of five it has been determined that we have the designated one.If I had another kid I would qualify.Im not allowed to leave the excess bags out for the binmen on bin day.I'm not allowed to put them in the bin van myself either. I have to watch the bin van drive off then follow it to the incinerator and do more manual labour than the blokes do-they stand and watch whilst our council tax pays their wage Altho we dont have that ridiculous rule as yet about bin lids having to be shut I know others have. What the hell is that about? Is it more acceptable to have a bin bag on the ground next to the bin with cats, birds etc going down it than a slightly raised bin lid which will be shortly emptied. It just comes across as utter madness. I recycle everything and my Green bin is full after a week but the collections fortnightly-hence the other bin overflowing every couple of weeks. It drives me nuts. Right rant over Felt good to get that off my chest tho

Our council is a bit different to yours Shadow, large items likes yours you have to tell them exactly what it is and they will come and pick them up, You are allowed to do this 3 times a year any more than that and you have to pay £10, so I guess we are lucky ;D

I was watching that thing about fly tippers a few weeks ago and this man came on representing the council and said "I don't understand why people do this. All they do is make the area look a mess, entice vermin and get themselves a hefty fine. All of which can be avoided by ringing the council and have them take it away free of charge." Free? What planet is he living on?

I'll tell you what-he must be living in some past decade as well cos councils-well at least Gateshead hasnt picked up for free for years now.
Ive been looking at all this stuff piled up in my frankly tiny garden and I can honestly say I can see why people might fly tip-apart from the fact that its gonna take at least two of us to shift it-so its gonna be sitting there a while yet-just hope the neighbours dont start moaning-its getting it into those bloody skips thats worrying me.

well if they do start charging for taking your rubbish to the incinerator we could have one of our meets at a pub down by the Tyne and watch the bin bags floating by.

Your right Shads you do pay for it in your council tax ....But whats happening is privatisation but the local authorities are using the economic climate to rip us off twice . My personal opinion is they are going to sell off the waste /recycling and charge us £5.00 a week to empty our bins which i dont mind as long as they reduce my council tax by £5.00 a week.....But you know aswell as me thats not going to happen All this talk of micro chipping bins and fining people for leaving their bins out to long is all about making recycling attractive to potential buyers But remember this post because what i have said WILL happen
