i know the first lot of xbox 360s had RRD probs saying that though my second youngest has one of the first Arcade ones and it's still going and he plays all his dvds, music as well as games, well anyway the 360s now seem quite reliable, me and my son bought a PS3 slim between us 5 months ago according to sony the whole motherboard has been reruited and they are very reliable, we have just had it replaced because of hard drive failure, the bloke in the shop said it's a common problem and checking online it's seems it is, so they fix one problem the motherboards and give us a new one, ive got loads of old consoles and they are going strong and one of them nearly 30 years old, the old ones were built to last these modern ones i think are built to last a few years.

It's called in built redundancy to ensure customers always have to buy the next model or version....................... CWL

We had to take our PS3 back last week too It was four months old.Bloke in Game tried to suggest it was somehow our fault because of where it had been standing and said it must have overheated.Since it was on its own on a shelf that sounded completely unbelievable at the time. I didnt realise it was a common problem Anyway-they replaced it for us.I wonder how long this ones gonna last then

I've really noticed recently how quickly things break down now-its hardly surprising that many shops offer extended warranty cover now.
We make sure we have it now for all consoles we buy after our original PS3 died on us just about two months out of the manufacturers warranty.Paid £100 to get the lens replaced at Game and it came back with a three months guarantee on the repair.
Four months later it stopped working again so we bought the one we took back last week.

if you take out 3 year extra cover it realy only covers you for 2 they count the first year it's covered by the manufacturer as 1, and if you think that's a bit sly after the first year if the product breaks down for a 3rd time they choose to replace it with a new one and when they do this that's the end of the warranty.

What made me laugh was when we took it back we also took back the controller which had also broken. That they wouldnt replace-its got to be sent back to the extended warranty people who apparently will then send us a voucher to redeem at....yep-youve guessed it-Game. What a carry on

i remember on the gaming forums a lot of PS3 owners taking the mick out of the Xbox 360s red ring of death problem, then the PS3 problems started, parts of the mainboard were coming apart through overheating and the machine sucked up more dust particles than a Dyson, at least Microsoft admitted the 360 had problems and started repairing them free of charge plus the gave a guarantee that they would repair free any 360 that broke down up to 3 years old, but Sony refused to repair the PS3s that were over a year old and refused to repair a lot under a year old the excuse for theses was, they were too dusty inside, the slimline PS3 has a new board layout so the old problem seems to have been fixed but the hard drive now seems to be an issue, the Nintendo Wii however seems to have no problems but the DS series has a big problem with hinges breaking and pins inside bending out of shape too easily, cant beat the old consoles though ive just purchased a Sega Dreamcast old but still going strong .

Funny thing is the old consoles are still going strong.
Reckon in the rush to get the next console out and get punters paying upwards of forty quid a game on new release Sony and Microsoft are making alot of money off the back of what are basically shoddy goods.

i think a lot of game developers have also lost the plot with a lot of these modern games, fun and enjoyable seems to have been replaced with annoying and frustrating, there have always been bad games and always will but it's hard to find a realy enjoyable game that you can play for hours like Sonic the hedgehog and Super Mario or Theme park and Rollercoaster tycoon.

Couldnt agree more. I love the Resident evil games and I've played every one but the latest one Resident Evil 5 I found vastly inferior to the previous ones.Gone are the puzzles I used to enjoy and theres very little storyline too-its just like so many other shoot em up type games on the market now I'm enjoying Dantes Inferno at the moment-very like the God of War games which do at least have a few other things to do rather than just shoot.

ive just bought Resident evil outbreak file 2 for the PS2 a few people did not like the first outbreak but ive heard this one is good, im slowly building my megadrive collection in my opinion the megadrive was and still is the best console ever for the ammount of enjoyable games, Road rash, Streets of rage, Cool spot, Sonic etc, i love my game consoles and have quite a few but my megadrive is still my favourite.

I dont understand the people who queue up for hours to get a new game on its release. I remember when "Black Ops" came out there was a sign in Game saying they would be open at midnight TBH we rarely buy new games-the prices are outrageous. We wait a few weeks then buy pre-owned games-I cant imagine paying upwards of forty quid for just one game no matter how good its meant to be
