Its beginning to look as if the battle might be lost The alert level has now risen to five and still the workers are persevering.I truly hope that the news is more positive shortly-but if things do become critical that they leave whilst they still can. Very brave men and women in my eyes.

Altho Japan seems to have been knocked out of the news a little after the escalating situation in Libya the news from there is far from over.
Estimated 15,000 dead in one province alone-truly horrendous figures.
And yet in the midst of this the rescue of a teenager and his grandmother 9 days after the event when all hope seemed lost.
Good to hear two units at the reactor are now under control-even if it is the two least problematic ones-fingers crossed that they are successful in containing the others.

Well its not looking good in number two reactor If it does actually meltdown this will result in the surrounding area being a virtual no-go zone in much the same way as Chernobyl was and still is.

The level has gone up in terms of criticality although actual radiation readings are nowhere near as high as that of the Russian disaster. Still not good though............... CWL

Its quite a confusing picture. On the one hand we had many re-assurances that things were becoming under control but equally reports were coming out about contaminated food etc. Caught a brief item this morning that America has banned imports of food from Japan but also apparently some countries are lowering their standards for want of a better word regarding radiation and therefore allowing the import of food stuff Its difficult to know what to believe sometimes

It's not the same as Chernobyl huge amounts of radioactive material haven't erupted into the atmosphere. Reactor 2 is being cooled so there no imminent danger to anyone except those around the area. I'm happy with nuclear power stations, but to build one on a fault line is unforgivable.
