Despite what statistics say it's pretty obvious population is out of control. Just look at the lack of jobs, housing and congestion on the road.
What shall we do to stop this madness, any ideas?

too late corrina.
it's not just immigration, it's the races we've allowed to immigrate who traditionally have large families.
third world status uk, for our children i'm afraid.
i pray mother nature sends us a solution.

A difficult one to answer, Corrina. I don't think you could impose a limit to how many children couples could have.....there would be an outcry! I do think there should be controlled immigration....I think the Government is looking into that but don't know how it will work exactly.......nor, I think do the Government! I would think that most sensible people now starting out in life must realize how difficult life can be as regards money, jobs, housing etc and plan accordingly. However, there seems to be a lot of single parents around with all the problems that that can bring. To my way of thinking there should be more education about the serious nature of bringing children into this world.....can the parents afford to look after them, etc? However, it's a difficult, controversial subject. It would be no problem if the world was a better place but it has too many problems.......maybe in the future, things will be better but on the other hand, maybe not........?

I think unemployed women should prove they're using some form of contraception. I know it's controversial but it has to be done otherwise we'll have a generation of horrors.

The lack of jobs is a result of a double dip recession, and we all know caused that. The outsourcing of manufacture to the third world of everything from clothes, Call Centres and Vacs etc has had a profound effect on employment vacancies.
We make hardly anything in this country, pressure of selling cheap means. Labels including Primark, Lee Cooper, BHS, Dyson and Rally to mention only a few as produced in sweat shops.
Apart from the manufacturing jobs and other jobs going, they are being produced in horrific and dangerous conditions, which many people have been burned and killed by collapsing buildings. Our cheap clothes are bashed blood.
See "Exposure" Bangladesh factory conditions on ITV player.

Well I know what I would do, for a start I'd limit all child related benefits to only 2 children, that way no one is stopping anyone having kids, but it would be in the full knowledge that any over 2 would have to be self funded. And secondly I'd stop all immigration from anywhere, unless they have a job to come to, I'd certainly stop people coming here "on spec"! We cannot continue to build build build with no regard to green spaces and nature, it's not only the houses but all the infrastructure that goes with it, i.e roads, drains, schools, shops etc. I won't be here to see it, but if we continue it'll be standing room only in 50 years time!!

You can't discriminate between women who work and those who don't. When is employment a qualification for having children? Females under 21 would be better...still against human and womens rights.

Agree. We can't go on like this. Seventy million people on an island as small as this one is ridiculous. Child benefit is something I just don't see the point off, nothing annoys me more than when I hear parents going "you're 17 now, I don't get any money for you" - You shouldn't need a financial incentive to look after a child you chose to have. I worry that by the time I'm retired we'll be back to mud huts!

Sri Lanka; population 20,000,000 /// area 66,000 km2 /// density 323/km2 (40th in world) The United Kingdom; population 64,000,000 /// area 244,000 km2 /// density 256/km2 (51st in world) Iceland; population 322,000 /// area 103,000 km2 /// density 3.1/km2 (235th in world)
Does the anti-stat brigade accept that I post the above? Good. If anyone thinks that I've been selective in any way, they are welcome to post the counter stat, or indeed any information that I haven't included - torpography and climate play parts for example. In this days of the Internet, this information isn't exactly difficult to come by.

But what's your point Nick? No comment. I presume there isn't a rule that says that one has to post an opinion if one posts information, and unless there is such a rule, then I'll post information without stating an opinion if I wish to.

I suppose if you pay women to have children (child benefit) that what they'll do!
It's not the size of the population, but where people live. Too many people want/need to live in the same place.
Cairo largest city in Africa, and Manila people almost living on top of each other. the rest of the country is mostly jungle.
We are no were near as bad as them and we never will be, There are people who believe certain races taking over, but those people have their own agenda, and should be ignored.

Are you always so prickly Nick? Of course there is no rule, however given that this is a discussion board, folk generally comment and give their opinions as well as post stats! If we all did this there would be no HYS board!!
