I needed to make a couple of appointments for the kids today-been a while since any of us have been to the GP so I was frankly gobsmacked at being offered the next available appointment on 31st of January. I actually thought the receptionist must have made a mistake :-[But no-its for real.So when I was told it might be better to take them to the walk in at Bensham it seemed a sensible suggestion. So we duly went there after school,sat for nearly two hours and finally got seen and got a diagnosis. Which requires a prescription. Which they cant give as its nurse led. So I was advised to take em to the doctor  I cant getover the fact that theres no qualified doctor there that can prescribe.So what the hells the point of em?  |

Just talking to my dad about it. Apparently at the start of my mams illnesses in October they went to the same place,sat for three hours waiting and were duly sent straight to the QE I cant see the point of sending people there unless it really is something minor that a cream or lotion can cure.And isnt the point of them to ease pressure on GP services etc?Well its not working then if you cant get a bloody doctors appointment or a prescription when needed. Honestly with that and having to try and park at the QE after-Im stressed |

This appointment business gets me!!!!! What was wrong with the old system? Years ago, if you were ill, you went to the docs, gave your name to the receptionist, sat down and waited your turn. How the hell can you improve on that? ?? It's no use getting an appointment for two weeks Tuesday if your bloody ill today!!!!  In our docs now, the receptionist doesn't even make the appointment!! You have to phone up, give your National Health number (yeah right, like you remember it?) then the doc phones back and gives you the appointment!! So why the hell does my docs need about 8 admin staff and a "manager"!!

[/quote I agree Ann the old system was loads better, but why can't the recepionist do the appoinment, phoning you back is just wasting time and money, you can't be ill by appointment anyway. |

Well with all this shake up, they'll have loadsamoney to flash about  About 80 bill I heard!!!!! Then watch the system go belly up!!! Carry on the way they are going and it's only the rich that will be able to afford to be ill!!

I went to the Bensham and as usual 2 to 3 hr wait got in to
see the nurse got the diagnosis but they could not prescribe
the drugs i needed so they told me to go to the QE
I went and had to wait that long by the time i got seen to
the pharmacy was closed so they could not give me the drugs
i needed.
If they want to improve on what they have all they have to do
is go backwards.....Like you said the appointments system
years ago was far superior to what we have now

I agree with you all. It is the same here. I very rarely go to the doctor - but when I need to, I want to see him NOW, not three weeks down the line when all symptoms may have disappeared.
I hate the walk in clinics, you can wait for hours - and they send you away with "call your doctor for an appointment, in the meantime take tylenol or aspirin every four hours"

Tried that poly and it worked got to see the Dr that day but i was made to feel uncomfortable when i turned up Last year i called my dentists about 1 in the afternoon they said if i had called before 09.00 i could of had an emergency appointment.....I said but you dont open until 09.00 so how can i call you before 09.00 I was called a smart ass and the line went dead. I called at the dentists before they closed and was told the lady in question had been sacked as she had come into work drunk |
