Rumours over here that Molde defender, Vegard Forren is on his way to England but not to Fulham as reported on SKY Sports.* Hope it is to us, I know for a fact that NUFC have been interested in the lad earlier. He is a good player - anywhere along the back line. Best defender in Norway two years on the trot.
*Strange, as he could have joined his International colleagues Hangeland and Riise.

One rumour that is no more.......... According to the official NUFC web site Mathieu Debuchy is hoping to make an immediate impact on Newcastle United's fortunes, and help the Magpies climb the Premier League table. The French international right-back completed his move to Tyneside from Lille on Friday morning, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Debuchy will be available to make his debut next weekend at Norwich. WL

Just before Christmas I posted about the San Lorenzo president talking about Colo heading back to Argentina and it now appears to have gained a bit more momentum..... According to the defender's father, Osvaldo Coloccini who works with San Lorenzo of Buenos Aires' youth sides, Coloccini wants to return home. Talks between Newcastle and the Argentinian side have been ongoing for two weeks but are now complicated by Demba Ba's departure to Chelsea. Osvaldo said: "It has complicated Fabricio's arrival, but there is always a ray of hope. The most difficult thing for Newcastle is to let him leave because they have already sold an important striker – on top of that he is the captain, an example, an idol and in a city that greatly loves him. "It would be nice for the two of us to be at San Lorenzo, it is the club we love. Fabricio is dying to return, but is trying to make a graceful exit." The 30-year-old is reported to be Newcastle's highest earner but he is happy to take a substantial wage cut if it enables him to return home to the side he went on loan to in 2000 while at AC Milan. And San Lorenzo head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi has already identified Coloccini as his No 1 target ahead of other potential transfers. He said: "We are more concerned with Coloccini because we need to strengthen the central defensive position." There has been a precedent of big players in Europe taking pay cuts to move back to Argentina in recent years. Juan Riquelme, Maxi Rodriguez and David Trezeguet, raised in Buenos Aires, have all returned to their favourite clubs. Coloccini's agent Marcelo Lombilla played down a potential move but described it as a "dream" for the player. He said: "Rumours have arisen because there is a personal connection as well as the fact that his father works at the club. These things generate rumours and hope, but they are dreams." Possibly also explains some of the bad feeling reported over here between skipper and manager in recent weeks. WL

While most of the rumours continue to dwell on the non arrival of Remy or the non departure of Santon this caught my eye...... Going for a Bong..... Among many such reports ITV came up with Alan Pardew's ongoing bid to boost his defensive options could lead to Valenciennes' Gaetan Bong, with the French club's president claiming Newcastle have tabled an offer for the Cameroon left-back. Despite bringing in France defender Mathieu Debuchy from another Ligue 1 club, Lille, this week, Pardew is still looking to strengthen in the area in order to take some pressure off his established names. Valenciennes president Jean-Raymond Legrand told le10sport.com: "Newcastle are very interested, they have made an offer. We will wait and see. But I will not sell players unless I can replace them." January could be considered a very long month if this carries on......... WL
