I was out today painting a wooden seat/bench at St. Marys Island, Whitley Bay (my contribution to the "Big Society"..ha, ha!). A bunch of about 15 or so Orthodox Jews, mainly males, turned up and asked me in which direction east was as they intended to pray in that direction. They duly prayed with much chanting and shouting of responses, etc. They then embarked on a series of dances and quite tuneful singing at the same time. It was very entertaining and there was much stamping of feet and laughter before they went on their way. A nice experience of a different religion!

What is wrong with the world is people are not interested in other cultures. Until we are willing to learn about people culture and religion, we will never progress. Maybe we can both enrich our lives and both gain.

Aye, very true, Milky......a few visitors to the island stumbled upon this prayer/celebration meeting and all of them went away with a smile on their faces. Also, the people involved were quite approachable and open to questions, etc.

People are often scared of what they dont understand, so they go all defensive and confrontational about the differences, instead of engaging with difference, and learning some understanding.
