Allow me to jinx the balance of our fixtures in totatlity and with complete disregard to anyone's desire for continued success...
…to the dismay and, I’m sure, complete and utter shock of everyone on this board, it does not appear that Newcastle will be qualifying for the Champions League…another disappointing season down the tubes…<sigh>, there’s always next year…
…however, many in the blogosphere are talking about NUFC’s chance for a Europa League spot…this would, of course, necessitate a finish of…Jesus Christmas…so complicated…
If Spurs win the FA Cup…A finish of 7th or better, provided Liverpool finishes ahead of us…6th or better if they finish behind us
If Chelsea or Liverpool win the FA Cup…a finish of 6th if Liverpool is behind us…7th if Liverpool finishes 6th (we’re just going to presume that AVB did not leave his box of trenchcoats to RDM and that Chelsea will squeak out enough points to finish at least 5th)
If anyone else wins the FA Cup…a finish of 5th…or, a finish of 6th if Liverpool climbs to 5th (meaning Chelsea drop to 7th…somehow, even as an American, I don’t foresee that)
…since we’re all master prognosticators, given how spot on we all typically are in the Weekly Predictions League, why not take a look at the way things could shake out over the last 10 rounds for the teams competing to finish 6th and 7th…I put my predicted # of points taken from each game in parenthesis after the fixture…

I didn’t include Swansea (also on 36 points) because I don’t see many points to be had left on their schedule the rest of the way…and there may be even fewer left on Norwich’s (also on 36) fixture list

…if that scenario plays out (and, let’s face it, it’s likely to happen EXACTLY as I’ve outlined above), Liverpool would take 6th by 1 point and we would be joint-7th with Everton…a spot in Europe to be decided by goal differential…(we’re currently one worse than Everton, having played one more game)…kinda crazy if that last game of the season is for a spot in Europe next year…
…of course, if Everton were to go on and win the FA Cup, we’d be SOL anyway…
