Newcastle United are the latest football club to settle a dispute over image rights with the tax authorities. The settlement covers all outstanding disputes with Revenue and Customs, it is believed. The sum involved has not been revealed but it is thought to be less than the amount set aside as a contingency in the accounts. By labelling payments image rights rather than salaries they can be paid to companies, often offshore, and attract corporation tax at 26pc rather than higher rate income tax at 50pc. Although only Chelsea and Newcastle have released information on settlements with HMRC, most Premiership clubs are understood to have come to agreements covering past liabilities and future treatment of payments. The club will be releasing its financial results later in the week. Should be interesting to see those results always providing they are made public of course. Strongly suspect they will be very misleading..............bit like my Karma! CWL

Interesting I didn't know Shirley was a member of the Renegades. Perhaps she is your secret admirer who has raised (gotta get a rise anyway you can at your age) your Karma to such a high level. Shame you are still 3540+ posts behind me and your Karma is even further behind than your total sum of Forum missives. Bit of catching up to do perhaps...............such is life............... CWL

CWL What it proves is given the wage bill is kept under control that the club is self sufficient. If the playing standards can be kept high and the club retains or improves its position there is an even greater potential for investors. ATB
