This weekend The Mags head off to Carrow Road for an away fixture against Premeir League new boys Norwich. Newcastle come into this game on the back of losing their unbeaten home record to Chelski although it is probably the number of players missing which is causing the most concern for both Manager and Toon supporters. Saylor is now out for the season following his achillies operation earlier in the week. While Sylvain Marveaux is still months away from any kind of return further bad news is that Danny Guthrie has also joined Tiote and Williamson on the medical teams list of casualties. With none of the trio expected to be making the trip South. Coloccini is also reported as carrying a knock (thigh) from last weekends defeat which saw him subbed on the half hour mark. In fact most of the back four suffered from a knock in some shape or form against Chelski which will cast doubts over their availability. One thing for sure it's certainly going to be a different set up from what we have seen in the fourteen previous fixtures. All of which means opportunies for other members of the squad to stake a claim in the first team. James Perch will probably retain his place at Centre Back simply out of necessity, but despite Kadar being mentioned your guess is as good as mine who will actually play along side him. Davide Santon may also be thrust into the fray as a possible alternative to either Simpson or Raylor. In midfield the news is a bit more positive with the return of Jonas following his one game ban. I also expect to see Danny Gosling have a run out with Mehdi Abeid taking up a place on the bench. Up front it will be interesting to see whether APee sticks with the Ba/Hatem combo or chooses to go with two big men again in Ba/Stroller or Ba/Best. Despite being on the end of a heavy defeat at the hands of Citeh last time out Norwich have taken to life in the Premier League pretty well under Manager Paul Lambert. City have no new injury worries, but fit again Zak Whitbread may be in line for a first team recall. Norwich will certainly fancy their chances in this one at home. For me as with other games this season I hope Newcastle go out and give them a game as sitting back is not an option. Should The Lads earn a point with a much changed first eleven I will be more than satisfied. Anything greater than that an absolute bonus. What do you think will happen? CWL

And for those of you that like the stats.................... All three Premier League meetings between Norwich and Newcastle at Carrow Road have ended 2-1, with the Magpies winning the first and the Canaries the last two. Norwich have failed to keep a clean sheet against the Magpies at Carrow Road in the Premier League. Newcastle have lost just one of their last eight Premier League games away from home (W3 D4 L1). Newcastle have conceded a divisional-high 53% of goals from set pieces this season. 26 points after 14 matches is Newcastle's best league performance since 1996-97. Newcastle have only kept one clean sheet in their last 10 Premier League matches. Norwich are one of two teams (along with Blackburn) yet to keep a clean sheet this season in the league. Norwich have scored the joint-most headed goals in the top division (7, along with Chelsea). Grant Holt has committed a foul every 21.5 minutes, more regularly than any other player this season. Newcastle have made more tackles than any other team in the Premier League this season (302). CWL

Well what is there to say about this one? Holt and Morison had a field day against our defense yesterday as those two were always going to outmuscle the defense in the air. Not surprisingly all of their goals were made on crosses/corners where we forgot to put Ba and Shola to mark them.
I think Simpson did a decent match in central defense anyway given the circumstances. Santon looked assured on the ball, but less impressive when defending. Shola was Shola, lazy but still managing to create things when you least expect it. Cabaye the usual hard working but skillful battler on the midfield. Gosling didn't take his chance and Pardew probably won't play him when his suspension is over. Jonás (captain for the day) worked hard as usual but provided very little when going forward. I hope Pardew won't play Obertan in a long while, didn't help out Taylor in the defense, never trying to win a 50/50 ball and as the commentary so well put it: "His feints and moves are all over the place and he never looks like he is ever going to get past his man." He should use his pace more to outrun the defender in one on one, instead of just standing there lifting his legs in a silly looking dance and then stop dead when he is about to get past... Ba is a cracking player but what will we do when he is away for the African Cup? He's the only player in the team who scores goals at the moment.
In the end it felt like it was going to be very hard when it was clear that Simpson and Perch played in the centre... not that we did enough to get a point at the rest of the pitch either, mind.

Agreed with all. Trying to figure out why AP plays Sammy, must be because Obertan is horrible and he's looking fer a replacement. Did anyone else notice all the handballs not called?

Agreed with all. Trying to figure out why AP plays Sammy, must be because Obertan is horrible and he's looking fer a replacement. Did anyone else notice all the handballs not called? Broon what's to figure? Sameobi is nowhere near the finished article and the only way he will improve is with games and that's why APee keeps sending him on. Because NUFC's squad is so lacking in depth and quality the kid gets a game now rather than being loaned out as with Tav, among others. The real shame is he is a left sided player. Meanwhile our right sided player Obertan is becoming a show pony with very few tricks............... Why someone is unable to get a hold of him and drill some basic wing play into his head is beyond me. His lack of awareness at times is frightening. I can only hope he improves with time as he is still young although it's easy now to see why he was let go from Manure. I watched the game on the internet while listening to local radio commentary. The constant appeals from the home crowd for handball was driving both the commentator and myself mental. The reason they were not given is simple............Martin Atkinson decided they were not handball! One thing for sure if any Premier League Manager or Centre Forwards viewed the highlights of the game it's pretty obvious what the tactics should now be when playing The Toon. Yesterday just reminded everyone of how poor we are again at dealing with crosses into the box. The worrying thing is I cannot see how it's going to get any better with what there is available to play. I wonder if Stroller fancies playing Center Back? CWL
