Started the dreaded task of getting in the school uniforms for the coming Autumn term but blimey its not easy.Had to go to a specific shop in Newcastle in order to buy the blazers with correct badges, sweater tops and ties and its already come to about a hundred quid-Tomorrow have to go to South Shields to a different specific shop which supplies the PE KIT-4 items of which are compulsary and total twenty seven quid per child-thats not including trainers and football boots....-so thats nearly two hundred -Then we have to buy the school shoes, trousers, skirts etc-Not being funny but its a huge expenditure these days and what annoys me is the fact that school has altered their PE kit every year for the last four years-so you have to buy it new each time and cant hand stuff down... I do query why students have to wear specific socks for example-only available from one shop. Ok rant over but Im sure I'll have more to say after Ive paid for the other stuff

yep school uniforms are not cheap when my eldest son and daughter were at Kings meadow we had to get their stuff from the Metrocentre BHS i think it was, and as it was the only shop that sold them they were a canny price, different from our school days shadow when you could wear what you wanted for PE and the only colour for a school blazer was black, they all have to be dressed the same for PE now and the colour of the blazer seems to change every year, luckily it's only my youngest i have to get a uniform for now but it's the school that sells it so it's not too badly priced.

I know skint. In our day I think Primary uniform had yet to be invented and I know when I started in Breckenbeds the only item compulsary was the Blazer that we had to get in Bainbridges I think. There was the godawful PE kit too mind-little Gym skirt and Gym knickers-looking back I wonder how they got away with it and I have many memories of a lot of blokes pausing to watch the PE lessons in the summer along Saltwell road :o

What a gorgeous avatar Nat! Is it an Ocelot? Or it could be a Caracel (sp) with those tufts on it's ears?

at Saltwell school a male teacher used to take the girls for PE, my sister and her friends said he was a perv as he would make them lie on their backs and do leg exercises, these days he would get locked up.

Aye we could have a "St Trinians" meet!!! ;D When are you back Leazes? We'll try and organise something, although we seem to have "organisational problems" of late

Never had a school uniform......we all turned up in assorted watered down teddy boy outfits, crepe soled shoes.....the odd "winkle pickers", frayed checked shirts......I had a mauve shirt a la Cliff Richard and combed my hair in what I believed to be an "Adam Faith" style! And those very thin horizontally striped ties! ;D
