Sitting here tonight I caught the minister or whatever for learning disabilities commenting on the news about the closure of yet another home. And I recognised the name-my old director from the houses I worked in during the eighties. We had two joint directors at the time-one a support worker who worked his way up-the other an ex-accountant.I had personal dealings with both.
Interested in how he got where he was today I did a bit of googling and what I found astounded me.Wonderful soundbite quotes about "been there done that" in the Guardian amongst other papers from 2003 onwards.Utter bollocks. No he didnt.I never ever saw or heard of this person visiting a community house.I had occasion to go into the house I worked in on my day off because this person demanded that two men did personal care on an autistic woman who had previously been raped-one of the support workers rang me and I assisted because the female staff on duty was escorting another female client.
Watched a youtube clip of the same person having a snigger about being part of the Government now-tried to comment but that wasnt allowed.
Saw the guy got an award last year for services to learning difficulties-so take a guess-which director was it?
