In the news this morning it is reported that some Pakistani men are driving around picking up young white girls who they rape & sexually abuse and Jack Straw has said the Pakistani comunity should ask why this is. A Pakistani spokesman has said its not a comunity problem as the spokesman claims these crimes are being committed by people involved in drugs crime etc
Now the picking up of young white girls by Pakistani men is nothing new in my experience There used to be a pub on westgate road called the Playground and this activity was rife and this was during the 1970s the only difference between now and then is now they are more open with it picking girls off the street

Being Jewish himself, Jack Straw should know the dangers of stereotyping the behaviour of an race or culture.
I wonder why these girls get into their cars in the first place?

It worries me that the focus on this issue is the 'pakistani' males and the 'white' girls. (notice the different emphasis on race for females, and nationality for males) This is a real issue. it could look like pakistani males are more likely to be drug dealers and sex abusers. I have personal experience of this through a family member who got into Heroin through her pakistani boyfriend. It wasnt because he was pakistani and predisposed to be a drug user/dealer, but simply because being pakistani, he had the links and networks that would also make him more likely to be a drug user/dealer. And this was simply due to the fact that that is where the Heroin comes from. By circumstance of availability and association, he was a user, who subsequently through circumstance became a dealer. I think headlines focusing on nationality/race/ethnic identity are too simplistic and lead to lazy reporting. There is a far wider issue here.

Your absolutely right Banshee, You've got colour and race all in one statement. All the BNP trolls and racist will think it's Christmas again.
Jack Straw is an old canny politician, and there will be some reason for him making such a statement.
We could be seeing Lord Straw of Blackburn in the near future.

I would say that there are alot of issues here.
A major one for me is the fact that altho some men of Pakistani origin might be grooming and abusing young girls they certainly are not alone here.Alot of blokes are doing the same.
And another issue which has also been raised on here is why these young girls are so desperate for some form of affection that they view all of these slimes as prospective partners only to be let down and abused.
Some young women these days seem to have been brought up with so little self worth that the be-all and end all is having a boyfriend and if hes got a flash car and a bit money so much the better.
Through my daughter Im aware of just how many young girls are being pressurised into sex and more by considerably older men-what depresses me is that the girls themselves cant see whats going on.
You get hypocrites in every religion-but men-or at least some men-apologies to the guys on here-are always gonna take advantage of the vunerable.
My question is-who made those girls vunerable, who sexualised them and who took their self respect away?

Isnt rape supposed to be some kind of power thingy? In that respect, there well may be something in the thinking that men from different cultures rape for a different kind of power trip, but hey im no psychologist!

Rape is about power and has absolutely nothing to do with sex. But in some of the things Ive been reading the girls werent raped as such-they were initially co-erced into having sex with the men they thought were their boyfriends then passed around. Its a tale Ive heard of too many times. So many young girls get into prostitution this way and its not about the race, ethnicity, religion or owt. Its some blokes that see a way of making a buck or two. Sex sells. And I should correct myself here-Im talking about girls but boys get dragged into the same cycle too
