I was sorry to hear that the Evening Gazette forum members have now lost their forum in much the same way we lost ours. The same message and no doubt the same struggle to find each other that we are even now engaging in.
Im in no doubt that yet again it will be down to the minority.
Im happy for any members who have the link to here to regroup and you will receive a warm welcome.
All of the ex EC members know how it feels.
We only ask that are T&Cs are followed.Unlike the EC and EG the mods on here do actually moderate.

Apologies for the mis-spelling of Gazette.
I notice the plug was pulled at about the same time ours was without notice-Late afternoon and boom.

It wasn't matter of if but when. From what I've see no moderating and a free for all for right wing scum and trolls, with the inevitable happening. Feel sorry for the decent people, but that are always welcome here.

It isn't just the Gazette. Regional newspaper forums have been dropping like flies so there is obviously something else amiss. We have family in different parts of the country from South Wales to Aberdeen and we all keep in touch on the local newspaper forums. It's a great way to keep abreast of what's happening in their local areas, what's on and what's newsworthy etc. They all seem to be owned by different organisations but who really knows. The only thing they seem to have in common is that all of the ones we joined use the same format, php.B.B. which should have no bearing whatsoever on their impromptu closure

In terms of the newspaper forums Ive been a member of both national and regional ones over the years. In almost every case those forums have now ceased to exist. But something that was clear was the appalling moderation.
I think the press run forums were moderated by one or two people who couldnt or wouldnt give the time or commitment to correctly run a forum. Both the EC and EG mods-some of whom were the same-left the mod hat at the door five o'clock sharp Friday night and were never seen again until Monday-a fact the trolls quickly picked up on.And a one visit a day was thought acceptable for forums that boasted hundreds if not thousands of members.
It was obvious that the EG forum was gonna go once the EC did.The vocal minority thinking they could carry on as usual after repeated warnings from ourselves.I stopped popping in there a while back and in all honesty I think the mod did too.
I think that this was always gonna be in the pipeline mind.My issue is the way the same people who must have seen our posts in January and beyond on their comments section once again treated their contributors like shit and did exactly the same again-no warning.no communication, just total shut down.

Surprised to hear this, but then not surprised. The opportunity to have a forum that truly represented the local community and thier views, was hijacked by the far right resulting in it all being too difficultl to moderate. I dont know why it was difficult. Surely this forum shows that moderation can be done sensibly, without restricting views until they become offensive. The plan for future forums surely then is for strict moderation without restriction, and the ability to recognise the difference between free speach and a free for all.

Another two of our regular newspaper forums have bitten the dust in the last week. The reasons given in both cases were the usual claptrap of too many complaints and a drain on moderating resources. Interestingly the biggest of the lot was WalesOnline which as you can imagine dealt primarily with all things Welsh. I've been a member, along with my granddaughter, since it first went online and, yes, arguments and discussions did get heated but they paled into insignificance compared to some of the forums which have now closed. The usual option has been given to comment directly on articles, but this of course means that only those issues raised by the publication itself are open to discussion. If it's not reported in the newspaper either in print or online then it's taboo. It would seem that there really is a concerted effort being made to deny people the right to have their say on public "media" forums which have always been popular. I fear the result will be free for all forums populated by extremists where moderation is non-existent, or forums where moderation is stifling open discussion, with no middle ground.

it's whats known as gagging, they only want us to talk about the subjects they choose to put in their paper and thats limited to the ones that have a reply option, the newspaper forums are viewed by lots of people Tony Horne used to check the EC one sometimes to see what subjects we were talking about and i bet their are a lot of subjects the papers dont want us to talk about, we all know plenty of them got pulled.

That's obvious in the Chron, when anyone says anything negative about Ashley!!! The paper should be reflecting the views of the fans, not sucking up to fatso!!!

I agree. But by the same token its also the easy option. An article is printed-people are invited to comment on that story and the admin/mods whatever they are monitor that single thread post by post. You will get the headlines that will attract the most posts, others that attract none and finally those where comment is simply not allowed. All controlled, all very easy. In terms of Renegades I think we are all open to frank and open discussions on all topics. The line will always be drawn when the T&Cs are breached -other than that I dont think the moderation on this site is in anyway excessive-and if we have made errors-bearing in mind for some of us its a new experience-we have taken on board members comments. So...What are we having our say about then? You wont find that question in many places these days but on here its welcomed

Is that another Taff I ask myself?? I sometimes go on my "hometown" forum, it's an independent one and very similar to this one. No unnecessary "censoring" and as you say shads, unless it breaches T & C's, anything goes I'm not surprised the EG forum has gone!! It was going down the same road as the EC one went, but they wouldn't be told!!!
