Ok guys.........its time to picture how next season will go......the pattern is set....no stars. Colo,Jose,Joey all gone and replaced with birds that broke their wings some time ago, can still fly (hopefully) , but were bought because the were 'cheap' tat that other bird fanciers didnt want to take a chance on. Also other birds that had their pigeon racing contracts worded that they could fly off where and when they want. We had a legal eagle that trolled through players contracts looking for fly away clauses. Seeing the Cashley modus operandus??? Notwithstanding all that distasteful business method, it makes money selling cheap tat to a gullible public, but also brings in the American way.......everything is cheap and disposable.....you dont buy Clarks shoes at 60 pounds , keep them and repair them..... you buy 3 pairs at 20 pounds and throw them away when theyre worn.... BTW ....WE ARE THE GULLIBLE PUBLIC.(Well not all of us) To bring this aviary meandering to an end .... I foresee that we will start the season like a flat out homing pigeon , only to lose its internal GPS before Christmas and land in a foreign land visited not so long ago, where mackems will abound ....its called relegation............Now where's the Jack Daniels.

Continuing the birdie theme, I think we are heading for a dead duck season.... Ashley is officially pigeon holed as a fat greedy miser.. If anything comes of this season I will be amazed.. I wonder how many freebies we will end up with... ........ ATB

Haven't seen anything of our new french lads so only time will tell!! However, my initial "gut" feeling is along Canny's lines............. Could this be our next No.9? Note the merry-go-round in the background

Each season is a venture into the unknown with The Toon so nowt new there.......... It's how well equiped the squad will be to survive is the big question? So far only Nolan has gone of any real note. For me he will be missed as much for his goals than anything else he may have brought to the side in the way of leadership as skipper. Jose, Barton, Colo, Jonas are all still there, well so far, although with two more months of the transfer window to go there's no certainty they will be before we kick off the season in August. Cabaye the Lad is a decent enough signing and he will add some serious cover for when Tiote goes missing either on African Nations duty or through suspension/injury. Demba Ba as a free signing has to be worth a punt given some of the crazy money being talked about and spent by some clubs for players not much better than he is. However he must start hitting the back of the net very early as I expect him to lead our front line ahead of Shola. Whether Shola will play along side him is another thing entirely. Best and Ranger have both been told to find new Clubs so I don't expect them to figure in things. Personally I would like to see Hatem play up front with Ba. Giving the lad a complete free role to just go out and play. The signing of Sylvain Marveaux is a strange one although perhaps not so when you consider he is coming on a Bosman free. He has not played since November 2010 following a long term groin injury and/or knee trouble depending on who you believe. Sounds like another Gosling and that because no fee is involved The Fat Controller has taken the gamble. The squad is no stronger, but also IMO no worse off in many respects. It will be more interesting to see how they actually play together in the run up to the first game against The Gooners. Last season we stuck to pretty much what had worked for Chris Hughton with a big man up front and on many occasions hit and hope! I expect the side to change its approach and play more of a passing game with plenty of movement up front. No predictions on how it will go yet as still plenty of things that can and probably will happen in next few months. Still all down to what our most benevolent owner does and as we all know that is a complete venture into the unknown. CWL

CWL When you say the squad is no stronger that is quite true, it may be a lot weaker with Nolan gone even Best contributed albeit before he got injured. If Ashley is depending on Ameobi and Loverkrands to get goals I think he is sadly mistaken.. There is always Benny Arfa and Dembo of course but are they strong enough!? ATB

Capt M, what do you mean by strong enough? CWL Well..Dembo allegedly has a dodgy knee and King Arfur has had a horrendous leg injury, apart from that... ATB

There were plenty of walking wounded already in the squad and having witnessed the farce that involved Ireland I don't believe adding a few more was ever a major consideration for Wor Mikey and co. It's why I will reserve judgement until I see how the side selected by APee performs in the pre season warm up games. As that is likely to be the only way supporters get to guage the fitness of some of them. How long some of them last beyond that is open to conjecture. CWL

Canny, I already had something arranged for that date unfortunately even before the fixture was announced so will have to pass this time. Look forward to reading your thoughts on the game and hope pre match training goes well. CWL

Maybe its about time that we just had English players in English teams, and preferably locals in local teams. I know this is just a dream but a return to sport would be a better thing than a team made up of names that sound like a menu. I have never been to a live footy match other than a school one, now they know how to play for the love of it, I know its just a dream and its a business, but when I was a lad....as the old saying goes..
