Just eaten some gooseberries and cooking apples, boiled, then simmered for a while. Poured them into a bowl with Cornish ice cream.....the mixture of hot and cold and sweet and slight sourness of the gooseberries/apples was great! A taste of Summer! Anybody got any favourite summer tastes now that the "Hoppings" are here and Wimbledon is starting?

Sounds nice, Milky.....Tescos tomorrow so I may just get those ingredients......got a bit of a thing too about raspberrys and blackcurrants, it's a pity we don't have the Summer weather to bask in while eating them!

Rhubarb. Absolutely love the stuff-just take the outside off and eat it raw And peas in the pod.My youngest and I love shelling them and eating them-I used to have them like this from my dads garden-much preferred to the cooked variety

Aye, fresh peas....we used to have an allotment and instead of buying the packets of peas from a seed shop we just bought dried peas from Tescos (Tescos again!) and chucked the lot into the ground. We had a fantastic crop and much cheaper than purchasing the seed packets.

A pint of EPA (or any other real ale) and a salmon salad outside a pub on hot day, what more summery than that?

Another meal that I enjoyed today and it felt "Summery"...if their is such a word! Anyway here it is:- fillets of trout (cheap at Tesco) baked in the oven for 20 minutes, along with slices of orange peppers, slices of onion. Put on plate with 4 radishes, 4 cherry tomatoes, a few slices of cucumber and some beetroot (not pickled). Sprinkled all over (sounds like Henry Cooper's Brut!) with a Kraft light French dressing. I've modified the post....it's "Summery" I think...looks better!
