With the impending(shock)transfer of the clubs captain what will be the reaction from Joey Barton? It shows how easily Ashley gets his way putting the Manager in his place yet again! Atb

Anyone who doesn't by now understand that The Fat Controller has the final say on everything at The Toon is either in a coma or has been living on a desert island for the past four years. Nolan being sold to the Hammers should not come as a shock as it's just typical of the crazy decision making which has gone on from day one. Fall out with Mikey and you are gone................simple as that. Barton going is just a matter of when not if................... What is staggering is that The Chronic is coming out with all sorts of stuff about transfer targets yet has missed our skipper going out the door. Whatever hold The Obese one has over that rag must be bloody good for them to have missed it entirely never mind having the gumption to question any reasoning behind the decision. Then again we all know its got nowt to do with Football and everything to do with money. CWL

Simple - they fear being locked out of SJP on match days. The standard of journalism would remain the same no matter where they are sitting.
It concerns me that more and more people seem to be defending Ashley and his modus operandi.

So far I have not had one straight answer from any pro Ashley person to this question..............basically what I would like to know is; After four years of this regime will The Fat Controller finance the side sufficiently to make it competitive and capable of winning silverware as nothing I have witnessed so far in footballing terms makes me believe he will? Now prove me wrong? CWL

What this club needs is some stability, the revolving door madness we see now will never allow that to happen. ATB

CaptM what you have said is very true, however the key thing for me in what you have posted is that as a supporter you still look for a glimmer of hope in football terms. The thing is though that The Fat Controller through his actions shows little interest in football other than how to make money from those who are, anyway he can. He could not give a stuff about the team or it's fans. They are simply a means to an end, namely making a wealthy man even more so. Those who praise his financial prudence at The Toon turn a blind eye to the extreme avarice of the man which is behind it in the first place. The FCB is in it only for himself and no one else. CWL

Latest twitter from Joey................as from Sly Sports. Joey Barton has dismissed speculation suggesting he could leave Newcastle for a Championship club. The midfielder is entering the final 12 months of his contract at St James' Park after talks over a new deal broke down. Unless negotiations over an extension resume, Barton could either see out the next year before leaving Tyneside on a free transfer next summer, or leave during the current transfer window if Newcastle decide they want to cash in. He has been linked with a move to relegated West Ham, where he would be reunited with former team-mate Kevin Nolan and manager Sam Allardyce, who brought Barton to Newcastle in 2007. However, the 28-year-old maintains that he has no interest in playing for a second-tier club as he wants to test himself against the best in the business. "Contract negotiations not re-opened. Back to NUFC on Tuesday, Happy days," Barton wrote on Twitter. He added: "Why would I drop down a league when I can more than hold my own in the Premiership? "What benefit would it give me? None. "I play this game to play against the best week in, week out." I'm of a mind that says NUFC are a better side with Barton in it than they are without him.................... CWL

Isn't somebody forgetting the January window?

Depends on what you are expecting to happen. From Cashley's point of view I'm not sure the January window comes into play here as far as a transfer fee goes. Who would want to pay a fee to NUFC for a player they can have for free come next summer? Come January Barton would be able to discuss a pre contract agreement with anyone he fancies as effectively he is out of contract at the end of the season. I guess technically that also includes dicussing and agreeing a new contract with The Toon. If Cashley wants to make anything from a transfer it would need to happen now hence they have slapped the £4m price tag on him. Barton needs to do nothing expect turn up for training, pick up his money and sit tight while his contract runs down. Should he be picked to play I guess he would play. After that Joey is just a reminder to everyone of the way the regime at NUFC operates. Makes me wonder would Joey hang around just to annoy the hell out of Ashley? Has a certain appeal I think................... having been in that situation myself waiting for a contract to end. CWL
