I had my heroes from books also but it was comics from which most came................including Dan Dare. Here are a few........... Alf Tupper.......... Roy Race................. and Billy Dane.............. CWL

Aye, 1/6d would get you in the pictures, (we called it "laugh and scratch"!!) an ice cream, and then chips, peas and a Vimto after Saturday morning treat!! For the "younger" members, one shilling and six pence is 12.5p now!!!!!!

Billy Dane and Biggles. Used to enjoy the Jennings books. Jennings used to be on BBC "Childrens Hour"....essential listening for me at 5pm each weekday. Billy Bunter was also on my list....I was fascinated by the "goings on" at Greyfriars School....a school which was a far cry from mine.....a "toffs" school.....Eton, Harrow, Rugby etc! Tarzan, too, was another one I liked.....wasn't he the Earl of Greystoke or something like that who had got sick of the high life and opted instead for a life in the jungle
