one of our neighbours has just got a kitten i dont know where from ill ask when i see them but im sure they only paid £50, when i say only it seems quite cheap for those who want one, but im not a cat person and would expect them to pay me to take one.

What the hell has happened to "free to good home"? Those prices are a disgrace for moggies, that's the price I'd expect to pay for pedigree kitts!!!

My cat Isis (Munchkins' mother) had four kittens 12 years ago. We gave two away and kept two, I'd just be glad they were going to a good home. It wouldn't occur to me to charge for them Mind, considering how many kittens a cat can have in a year, it could be quite lucrative!! Still wouldn't do it though

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So this pet shop can sell kittens for these prices when at the end of the day they had proberly been given them at no cost, great profit they're making is'nt it. Have any of these people that buy animals from these places thought of going to any of there local charities eg a cat that would be micro-chipped/neutered/ innoculations given and blood tested in our area would cost you £45. Ann/ Shadow you both have cat's and know the price the vet's charge, this is a reasonable price for what you are getting. quoting the price Shadow gives here you can more than double the price again, if you got all of this done, not all animals are healthy when you get them from shops myself I don't think they should be allowed to sell animals.

Completely agree roma. What depressed me was seeing those three litters in cages with no opportunity to play properly or run around as our kittens always do. I know that pet shops dont pay for kittens-years back one of my guinea pigs had a litter and out of interest I asked a local one what they paid-it was three quid a baby-to be sold on at close to twenty quid.I then asked about kittens-not that any of ours would ever be sold like that :oThey pay nothing at all-so if you work it out-the shop I was in yesterday had about 9 kittens at least-averaging it at a hundred pound a kitten thats nearly a grands worth Private sellers are greedy sods too in my opinion.Fifty quid Now our female has had a few litters-but in homing the kittens the place is more important than the money-Ive given many away to people who showed they had a real interest and willingness to look after the kittens.Occasionally I sell them-for between ten and twenty quid -purely to give my kids a bit pocket money as they are always gutted when the kittens go. Shadow is pregnant again now I think. This will be her last litter as I intend to have her neutered and its not cheap as roma pointed out but in homing the kittens money will not be a consideration. And forty five quid with the neutering, microchipping etc-more people need to know about this.

to get a cat or a dog seems to cost a small fortune, then over the years there is vet bills, food, pet shampoo, little pet treats and toys and many other things which all cost money, and if it's a dog there are the long walks and having to carry a bag of poo back with you, this is why i dont have pets id rather spend the money on me and my family, and i dont ever have to rush home because rover needs his walkies, and i dont have any problem with pet hairs .

I actually made a conscious choice in having small pets when the kids were young. When I was growing up I saw a lot of cruelty inflicted on animals by young kids-fish caught out of the lake in Saltwell park cut in half and left lying about, fledglings that had fallen out of the nest stamped on or tortured for hours, horses at the riding school I went to mutilated and it was important to me that my kids grew up having respect for other creatures All three of my kids have benefited from having them-theyve learned about the responsibilities in having a pet.Theyve witnessed births of kittens and guineas and theyve also experienced the deaths of some of them. They also care a great deal for them and have learned about gentleness and respect for other creatures which isnt a bad thing
