An article in todays Chron says that residents in North Tyneside are being issued with diary sheets asking them to record details of dog owners who fail to clear up after their dogs.Information such as time, date, location of the offence as well as descriptions of the dog and owners registration if appropriate. Whilst I agree that dog mess is a problem is this the right way to deal with the issue?Because I can see some difficulties. About a year back we got a letter asking us to attend our housing office without any reason given other than a complaint had been made by a neighbour. On our arrival we were advised that the complaint was regarding our two Border Collies.A neighbour had stated that we allowed the dogs to roam free and that they had fouled in their garden. It wasnt until I pointed out to the officer that we have a five foot fence-built at our expense-to specifically keep the dogs in and that one of the dogs would not be trustworthy around youths anyway before we were believed. I wonder how people would feel about completing this diary and I also wonder why doggie do was chosen rather than other types of antisocial behaviour

I don't really like this kind of thing from councils....encouraging people to spy on their neighbours etc.....I think it is a step towards the "big brother" society. We have two cats and are paranoid about trying to keep them from having a crap in one of our neighbour's flower beds. We usually succeed in stopping Munchkin...the other one uses the litter tray. Like you say, this kind of thing generates "animal lovers" versus "animal crap haters"....with the latter taking on a "holier than thou" attitude!........Ah well, never mind, worse things happen at sea.....and the sea takes care of it!....ha,ha,ha. ;D

Well, no one has given us a "diary" to fill in!!!!! Maybe they are selective in who gets them! I'll tell them what to do with their diary anyway ;D So much for the "Big Society" if neighbours are spying on neighbours Maybe a quiet word in their shell like would be better. I do agree with keeping them off the beaches though.

i think this is a job for the council but due to budget cuts they are wanting people to do their job for them, if they want to catch people who dont pick their dogs doo up they just need to take a walk along the Keelmans way or the Derwent walk these have become dogs toilets, keeping a diary wont do owt anyway they will need proper proof, photos of the dog fouling and samples of the poo, id like to see someone agreeing to take poo samples .
