Voted on Tioté too, he has been a very good signing. Been dominating the midfield when's he's playing.

Joey Barton for me - I think he has made the difference between us being mid table and fighting off relegation.

Spotted this on ESPN Soccer Blog.................. blogs.soccernet.com/newcastleunited/archives/2011/05/premier_league_season_review_p.phpFor the most part I reckon he is not far off although some get higher ratings than I would have given. He hedges his bets when it comes to the main men in the side and who should be player of the season, but it's pretty clear who the contenders are............... Do you agree with this guys assessment or have a different view? CWL

Can't agree with him saying that Williamson is poor in the air, Coloccini has been struggling in the air and Willo has been there to cover up for him all season.
Although a limited player I feel that I have to come to Simpson's defense, Barton often moves in into the middle during the matches which leaves Simpson on his own on the right flank. I think he backs off a lot because he is afraid of selling himself on one-on-one which would leave the right flank wide open.

Natt it's a fair point about Williamson............and certainly worthy of debate who is worse in the air at times him or Colo. Perhaps fans are judging him too early after just this season in the Premeir League. Colo did not exactly cover himself in glory when he first arrived. However the drop down to the Championship did him no harm. For many supporters he has redeemed himself and looks worth the transfer fee. I'll judge Williamson more next season when I would expect the experience gained during this campaign to hold him in good stead. He is definitely worth a place in the squad as Sol will probably be on his way, unless retained as a coach. That would leave us with three recognised Centre Backs and possibly room for Kadar to step up. Danny Simpson has done okay, but like Williamson has been severely found out on several occasions. I think he backs off far too much and for me should close down the man he is marking far earlier. The thing is he can get done by a pacy wingman as he is not the quickest. Once again I'll judge him more next season having recovered well from injury and got some Premier League experience under his belt. CWL

It does look funny when he is running around, almost as if his long legs aren't made to or used to it. Can't fault his work rate though, he'll run over 90 minutes if he has to.

Tiote for me too! Joey a close second, he's been an "inspiration" to our midfield despite his "previous".
Can we keep hold of either of them though.......?
