Talking to my sister yesterday she's still traumatised after being pulled over for the first time in her life. She had apparently driven through a set of lights.According to her it was one of those moments when its safer to continue rather than brake suddenly-I know what she means-happens to me quite often when the lights start to change just as you are approaching. Anyway-she was taken out her car-and had to leave her deeply frightened young daughter alone whilst she had her rights read to her and ticket was written. She got the points and the fine but I had to laugh at the reason she was stopped-causing a taxi to have to slow down

So if she hadn't slowed the taxi down, that would have gone through the lights then? I've often gone through on amber, 'cos if I didn't and stopped, it's usually odds on the car behind would go into the back of me!!!

I had 15 points on my licence at one time, so I can't really comment.

Were you banned Milkhope? Only Red means stop Amber is letting you know that the lights are changing

Thats what I thought nick.I'm trying to work out how she caused the other driver to brake-my god if I think about the number of times I have to brake in a given day I think she said it was on or near a roundabout but surely theres a link between the sets of lights and if one lot was on amber to slow traffic down then shouldnt the other also have been on amber to pull off? Just find it ironic that it was a taxi driver inconvenienced after some of the experiences Ive had with taxis

the only way i could see how this happened if the traffic lights were on a roundabout, if they were changing you only stop on amber if you have enough time to safely, if she went through on amber as they turned to red the other lights would have hit amber and if a taxi was approaching the lights very fast like they do he may have thought, ooh amber i can go straight through but your sisters car forced him to slow down, dont know if it happened like that but seen similar things happen at the roundabout at GHD near the cicvic centre, you have to be carefull when approaching traffic lights dont know if it's just me but some seem to change very quickly, there was one set at GHD used to go green red no amber it was like that for days before they repaired it, anyhow the traffic police should get themselves down to the A1 near the metro centre it's a 50mph limit and lorries and cars are still doing 70+ even when the roadworks were there and it was 40mph they were still flying along and ive never seen a traffic cop there.

Come off it Skint that would mean they would have work. Speaking of the A1 I see the outside lane is out of bounds to lorries they can only use the inside or middle lanes

Talking of lights those ones in Gateshead are a nightmare When I drive Mr Shads to work I often come back along the Quayside to avoid traffic on the big bridges and come over the Swing Bridge but theres one set of lights drives me nuts in particular-theres a set just near the Bingo Hall-they turn Green and you can see the next set-just going onto the flyover-turn red so you manage to travel about twelve foot before stopping. They are cunningly masquarading as a pedestrian crossing but theres never anyone there so you have to sit there like a bloody lemon time and again waiting for the invisible man/woman to cross. And theres absolutley no reason that I can fathom for this constant stopping of traffic-its a proper wind up

Several years ago I witnessed a bad accident at that double set of lights on the G'head side of the Tyne Bridge before you turn right into G'head, etc itself. The bloke in front of me moved off at "red" and a car travelling at speed towards Ncle smashed into him. Apparently, he was looking at the second set of lights which had turned amber, then green! I volunteered to be a witness to the whole incident but heard nothing more.

Ive seen a canny few accidents there Jazz but it doesnt surprise me.I cant believe the numbers of sets of lights let alone the road layout.
You literally have to cross two lanes in places to get where you are hoping to go,youve got four lanes converging into three, theres places when one minute your in the left lane but suddenly youre in the right and theres about twenty sets of traffic lights.
Every driver in Gateshead knows what a disaster the area is.

The roundabout near Asda's at Gosforth for some reason seems to be an accident black spot. I was involved in one there around 18 months ago (not my fault) one of my neighbours just has, and i see accident there with alarming frequency. Don't ask me why, it just happens.
