My dads going off it cos he was involved in a minor bump in Newcastle few months back. Was no damage to either car but worrying that the other driver might make a claim-he was shouting and bawling-my dad reported the accident to the insurance company. No claim was made and no blame apportioned but the insurance companies just put his premium up

car insurance is a rip off, were paying for those buggers who do crash for cash, good drivers should be rewarded ive never had an accident or a point on my licence but each year my insurance shoots up .

Plenty of people doing crash for cash Got offered alot of money off a bloke to crash my old car into his-he was gonna go down the whiplash route get the compo then treat himself to a new car too. I would have had a few hundred and a better car than I was driving-makes you laugh. My insurance would have rocketted, probably couldnt have afforded insuring a new old car The answer was no but I'll be honest-the pressure and intimidation to do it went on for a long time.

Ive been driving for nearly 40 years now and been involved in 1 incident which i felt i was set up it was in tescos carpark consett .I had popped in for some fags ..5 mins tops when i came out i was walking towards the car and thinking something didnt look right ....My front bumper was scratched the grille was broken and traces of white paint . All i could remember was the car opposite was white. anyhow there was nothing i could do security said the cctv wasn't working so i had to put it down to experiance and pay for the damage myself ...About 5 weeks later i got a call from my insurers asking if i had been in an accident they said a driver had claimed i had reversed into him and drove off and because i had not reported it they had no option but to pay out...I explained my side and they were quite sympathetic and said there had been a lot of similar incidents lately but i should of reported it

I tend not to report being honest Had my wing mirror smashed a couple of years back-passenger side-but since its not part of the MOT I didnt report it. And Ive had windscreens put out, tyres slashed, paint on my car which I spent all night cleaning off so the kids wouldnt see it on the school run-all on my old estate-preferred to go to the scrap yards rather than see my insurance rise due to no fault of my own

Person who did that to the mirror was out of his head on drink and drugs. Same lad put my windscreen out in broad daylight two years previous. His family paid for the damage and that was because they didnt want the police involved.Being new to the estate nor did I. Starting out as a "grass" was not a good beginning On my old estate it was a nightmare-you know the saying if your face dont fit-mine didnt. Got allocated a house our neighbour thought should have gone to their daughter-I hadnt a clue-and six years of hell followed

I can see your point, but what punishment did the lad get, from the sounds of it none as his family paid for his mistakes.

He got none other than being made to apologise.
Having said that I have had no further bother and we say hello when we meet in the street.
I take the view that he was a young lad who f**ked up-I think I would try and do the same for my lads too should they do something so stupid altho by the same token there'd be hell to pay at home.
The damage done to the car on the old estate was vastly different. It was done by people who had a real agenda and some of them were well old enough to know better.
Grandparents.

One of the members of a motoring forum i use has 5 cars different variants of the same model he posted a couple of months ago that a member of durrrrr club had keyed every panel on each of his cars . It cost him over £2000 to put the cars right....He never made a claim because he would not of been able to keep all his cars which he takes to shows. These cretins who go about costing hard working law abiding people should be given 2 options pay for the damage within a week (No excuses) or birched

Mind you the public floggings could bring in some much needed revenue, particularly the TV rights.................... CWL

public floggings, it would be a dream come true if they brought the birch back, also the rack, hung drawn and quatering, stocks, gallows etc i think if they brought these back the crime figures would drop quicker than a prozzies knickers .
