Out of contract this summer from Hamburg and Blackburn said to be interested in him. Major advantage is Salgado who's good friends with Ruud from their Real Madrid days.
He's 34, still a couple of years left in him.
He's above the age limit of Ashley but he'd be that wow signing we'd all like and he'd come for free. Maybe worth a punt. He's still a good finisher. We could easily hijack the deal as even Ruud will know that we are better than Blackburn.
Thoughts?

Why do we brand any player above 30 as "past his best"? Sure makes for a convincing argument but if he wants a return to the PL and has the desire to play and is fit then why not?
Seb Larsson is a good bet. Because Routledge will sign for QPR once they are promoted.

Not having a pop about his commitment or desire to play in PL. My reason for stating he is past his best is simply based upon him not being able to replicate his Man Utd years or the one great season he had with Real. I would be saying exactly the same had you suggested we bring Owen back for another go as his contract is up at the end of this season also. The other thing about players over 30 in this league is that we know the physical aspect takes it's toll. They may be great players but will most likely not see a season through without suffering an injury or two. As we have seen with Smudgie it gets harder and harder to come back each time............ I had reasonable thoughts Campbell would do okay for us as a squad player, but he too appears that the years have finally caught up with him. There are exceptions as with all things, however I just don't see our owner taking the gamble again. Do You? CWL

There is also a big difference between over 30 and over 34.
