I was reading online, that this will be an excuse for retailers to put their prices up by at least 8%!! 2.5% is bad enough, but any more I would have thought was suicide!!! People will only take so much before they say "enough is enough" and stop buying overpriced goods, then watch the soft stuff hit the fan!!! Gideon reckons it's the best way to increase revenue, to pay for the deficit No, IMO get out of the EU and we would save billions per year and no need to increase VAT!!! And this is only the start.................................

I heard on the new's that the average family are going to pay out approx £30 a week more through the increase of VAT,a lot of families a strapped for cash now so it's only going to get worse I think.

You know what gets me? How do we actually know that the deficit is as bad as they tell us? We only have their word for it!!!! The default position of the Tories in smaller State intervention, this is a bloody good excuse to get rid of thousands of public sector workers, and blame it on the need to lower the deficit!!

What peeves me is when our so called leaders keep telling us we all have to tighten our belts its ok for them the state will be paying for a lot of their cost increases and its not as if they cant afford to put their hands in their own pockets a lot of them are millionares and have interests in the companies who will use it as an excuse to increase goods
But at the end of the day it only works out a couple of £s extra per hundread £s spent

i noticed the computer store in the Metro Centre have put their prices up on a lot of the games, a lot more than the 2.5% VAT increase, PS3 play starter pack was £44,99 now £52.99, yep were all going to get ripped off, nothing new there.

We are all having to budget to get by, and local authorities are having to do the same, but they are run by people who have no idea about having to watch the spending. We hear of LA's cutting jobs, but still spending out thousands on new cars for their mayors and top workers. Still employing agency workers at twice the cost of employing permanent workers or workers on short term contract workers which would be actually half the cost. what it needs is for 'normal' people who are used to having to budget to be put in charge of the whole council . They would be able to sort out what is essential spending compared to what is just waste.

During the Christmas hols Mr Shads was working but he was one of the very, very few permanent staff that was.Vast majority were agency workers and its gotta be lucrative because some of em were travelling a canny way.I dread to think of the costs of this alone. I could get into the amount of food wasted on a daily basis because way too much is prepared but we'd probably be here all night
