Mr and Mrs Avatar has seen the weekly shopping bill rise from about £100 to over £150 in less than a year.
So we've said enough is enough being conned by the big supermarkets who discount some lines only to have your eyes out with others. Its a standard marketing ploy you guy your two for one and then pay more than the difference on the next two items you put in your trolley.
We've switched to Aldi to get the majority of the stuff we buy each week and just get the bits from Tesco and Asda we can't from Aldi.
Result is we've reduced the weekly shop to down around £80 a week. Takes a week or two to get used to the european brands but the produce is as good as if not better in some cases than well know branded good.
We all need to tighten our belts and in these times so give it a whizz.
Not tried Liddl (sp) yet but if an of the CR Massive have any experience I'd be interested to hear your experiences.

Prices certainly have gone up Avatar, it's now noticeable And it will only get worse with the fuel prices, it'll filter down to everything!!! I must admit I tend to stick to Tescos, I hate shopping with a passion, so the less time I can do doing it, the better!! Only that I like to pick my own stuff, I'd do it online, to avoid going there at all!!! But I like a good mooch in the book section I know some say it's cheaper to go to the small local shops for fruit and veg, but TBH, I cannot be bothered going from shop to shop. In the past I've never had the time or the inclination, now I've got the time, but still no inclination

Re shopping at Tescos.....fortunately or unfortunately we have got hooked on the loyalty points that Tesco have......we save them up for Christmas spending. However, by doing this I know we probably miss out on cheaper stuff elsewhere.....the Grainger Market in Newcastle, as well as other local markets. Aldi, Lidl, Netto & similar shops certainly seem to be picking up customers now.

Avatar-we do most of ur shopping now at Lidl and Aldi.I like both of them-as you say there is a fair bit of European produce but since I'm used to eating it from our visits to family in Germany I'm not complaining. The rest of the family enjoy the variety too so we are all happy and we most definitely come home with roughly double the amount of food that we would get for the same total cost from one of the larger supermarkets. Lidl and Aldi do sell some similar products but they also have certain lines that are only exclusive to one or the other altho still at reasonable cost.Love the red cabbage in Lidl and love the mushrooms in oil from Aldi

Yeah Skint - I do that as well. Got a huge supply of soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. It cannot have a "best before date" Hubby thinks I'm mad - but I'm just saving money, and shopping, because I hate it.

i do all the shopping and i like to work out prices on everything, like is it cheaper to buy 2 boxes of 24 weetabix than a 48 box or is 4 750ml bottles of diluty orange cheaper than a 3litre bottle, i dont like shopping much but like to save money when i do .

I was doing that in Tesco today - it's cheaper to buy a 6 pack of milk than buy it each. It's 72p a litre, but only 3 quid for 6 litres. Sometimes you have to watch though, I remember those Special K cereal bars, I used to buy them in 6's, then they brought out a 12 pack, but it was cheaper to buy 2 6 packs!!!

no matter what store you shop at you have to be careful of those special offers, sometimes they are not that special, Netto is now owned by Asda and they were talking about turning them into Asda express shops.

they took them over in the summer and the plan was to turn them into Asda express shops but ive heard no more since, i suppose these things take time though, Asda may own the Netto stores but councils have to give the go ahead for them to change the name from Netto to Asda stores.

I do indeed Jazz If I could afford them I'd buy those dried Porcini ones(ceps) they sell in Sainsburies but when I saw the price tag I nearly fainted with shock So I make do with the odd morsel in the Aldi mushroom jars which are a hell of alot more reasonably priced. Or I find my own
