It would seem Southgate is to become England's new manager, no other names have been put forwarding. Let's hope he's more circumspect with whom he dines with!

Well, the post-Sven decade has been pretty appalling, certainly compared with Sven's half-decade in charge. If Southgate takes England to the World Cup quarter-final in 2018, that will be a fantastic achievement - never before has a quarter-final been regarded as a great ambition for an England coach, but now it certainly is. Southgate's CV is, unfortunately, pretty abysmal, and I can't understand why he appears to be preferred over Eddie Howe. Anyway, good luck to Southgate!

Southgate has got the job of England coach. Again, I post my list of the last 10 England coaches in the order of how well they performed. What do other people think? 1. Bobby Robson 2. Terry Venables 3. Sven-Goran Eriksson 4. Glenn Hoddle 5. Fabio Capello 6. Roy Hodgson 7. Ron Greenwood 8. Kevin Keegan 9. Graham Taylor 10. Steve McClaren - I haven't evaluated Sam Allardyce because of a lack of matches. What do other people think?
