I hope I didnt miss the point and give you the opportunity to boast about your tax payer funded car again did I ? Not many women understand cars, so I forgive your ignorance. I do understand cars though-Im not a mechanic or else Id probably have a pretty good income but I do have a good basic knowledge--I realise this might be a tad surprising for a woman given that we shouldnt know about these things in your world and I imagine you must have greater knowledge than myself given that your cars are serviced and replaced on a regular basis by minions at the garage-my goodness how could I possibly know anything at all about a car-its a mystery how I even manage to unlock the thing isnt it ?

Not too clever about cars - is your MOT thing done every year? We have an Emission Test every two years, depending on the age of the vehicle. This thread has just made me realize how little I know about car maintenance (guess Milky is right about women and cars). My husband always took care of these things, he was a mechanic (before they were called Auto Technicians) - so now I must remember to have oil and filter changes done before I give up driving. Anyone want to buy a 2009 Honda Fit? Shipping extra!

I don't know if an right or not about women and cars (bit tongue in cheek). I must admit I know how to change a wheel, and that's about it. I've been told by many women garages treat women different than men, and tend to be patronising. Coincidently I'm watching the Canadian F1 now.

:)G'Day! This "Hair like stuff " in a modern exhaust system doesn't make sense. Any engineers out there care to explain? I'm totally lost on this one one. Memo to self........ Ask the students.

Hi patsie the Honda Fit are known as the Honda Jazz over here, they are nice cars, BRS the hair stuff it's sound deadening material from the exhaust silencer, back box, muffler, name depends on where you come from as people call it different things, Ann I would advise getting a new back box part of you're exhaust the hair stuff means it's rotting from the inside and will cause a loss of power and use more fuel, you should have stuck some of the hair on the bald tyre.

The last car I had (Peugeot 308 diesel auto) developed a misfire. It went in to the main dealers, and they phoned me and said "The software has been corrupted, new software have been downloaded, and the management system has been reconfigured" The first time I've understood what a mechanic said to me.

I thought the sound-proofing was actually outside the system and incorporated in the external "Heat sheilds" as it was many years ago. Oh the technological advances. Scary
