Magpie, read one or two bits and pieces about this over the last couple of weeks. Mainly because he was being touted with a move, both Villa and West Ham were mentioned. The player himself actually for someone who has such a terrible reputation for some things off the pitch kept a very dignified silence. He did then release a statement saying he would like to stay at The Toon for the remainder of his career and would even consider a pay cut. He seems to have found somewhere he can be settled and since kicking the booze got his life in order. From a football perspective I would be very satisfied should he sign a new deal. Next one to convince will be Jose................. CWL

Barton has definetly been revived this season and I hope he will be able to keep it up, both outside and on the pitch.
José must be the best full back we've had in years, got it all and more you can ask from a player in that position and we definetly need to settle a deal with him otherwise other teams will pull on him.

Agree with comments CWL and Seb.
With players like Jose, Barton, Tiote, Carroll, Arfa we can build a squad capable of taking us to Europe. In fact we'll soon be in Europe unless fatty presses the self destruct button again...

I wonder what kind of figure we are talking here? Down from £65000 pw to £60.000 pw or what. Either way he can afford it.

Knowing that tightwad Ashley, he's probably trying for minimum wage rate!!!!!! Even at something like £30,000 pw, he's hardly going to be on the breadline!!!! I'm glad he's staying though, we need players who want to be here

We rarely see today's players do even this much...
