Looking on the news, and it said that West Ham and Spurs will be "bidding" on the Olympic Stadium. West Ham will keep the athletics track and Spurs won't. What do you think of that? Personally, I don't like athletics tracks round football fields, when you see the foreign ones, the fans seem miles away from the field!!! Also what would happen if a game clashed with an athletics meeting. Apparently it will hold 60,000, I'm sure they will make more money from a footie game than an athletics meeting!!

Can't undestand why West ham would want to kkep the running track. Upton Park is one of the few remaing old fasioned and intimate stadiums where spectators are extremely close to the pitch. I can however understand them wanting to increase revenues by accomadating more spectators but this is too much.

Ann wrote "Also what would happen if a game clashed with an athletics meeting." Yes, that's a very worrying scenario. Also, what will happen if an England match, ever clashes with the Cup Final? Or, indeed, what will happen if a pop concert ever clashes with a Toon match, at St. James' Park? Or what will happen if Prince Philip dies just before the Royal Wedding? Will they have the funeral at the same time, and in the same Cathedral??? I've got an idea. You get a pieace of paper, and whenever something is scheduled, write down the date and time of its taking place. Then, if someone else wants to book you for that particular time and place, you say "I'm terribly sorry, but you can't on the 15th, but the 17th if free" They might then say "Hmmmm. The 17th if a bit awkward for us." Then you can say, "What about the 19th" And they may say "Yes, the 19th is fine" And Bob's your uncle. The human race has done this for a long time.

So what do you think of the concept of getting rid of the athletics track then Nick?

I'm not bothered. It's a break with tradition, because usually, the host city keeps the Olympic Stadium, complete with running track. But I believe in being practical, and if there is no demand for a massive athletics statium, then don't bother. I must admit, I do approve of all acts of frugality, and I think it's an act of frugality to have sports sharing stadia, but it is SO much better to watch a football match, without the athletics tract, that I'll go along with removing the track. I don't care a fig about the tradition of 'keeping' the Olympic Stadium in tact.

Surprised me as well just now. Pity because Upon Park is a good old fashioned ground with a great atmosphere (I have heard). Plus the Olympic stadium will have the running track around it, wont it? I dont think football stadiums should have tracks as it pushes the fans further away from the action.

Not sure it makes that much difference TBH..................... Think for one moment about the poor souls up in Level 7 at SJP. Not only do you need the assistance of sherpas to get up there and a personal oxygen supply simply to stay there. To add insult to injury once you have found your seat you need some binoculars to then watch the game. Probably got more chance of seeing seagulls flying off shore at Tynemouth than one of our players scoring a goal. CWL

It was announced this afternoon that West Ham have beaten North London rivals Spurs in the race to make the Olympic Stadium their new home. I guess all that is need now is for Boris Johnson and his Tory party friends to cross the T's and dot the i's for it to go through. Embarrassment saved all round on the political front with the IOC and OPLC also probably very relieved it has finally been decided. Now all West Ham have to do is either stay in the PL or fight their way back should they be relegated to see if they can fill it! Appy Arry no doubt will now be muttering away in the background about the implications of a new stadium for Totting Ham and what it may mean for his transfer budget. CWL
