Steve McClaren has resigned as manager of Nottingham Forest after less than four months in charge. McClaren made the decision after Sunday's 3-1 defeat at home to Birmingham left Forest in deep trouble towards the bottom of the Championship table. Following talks with the club's owners they reluctantly accepted his desire to stand down. Forest now have two weeks in which to either make another permanent appointment or find someone to take temporary charge before facing a six point relegation battle away to Coventry. CWL

Hot on the heals of the news about McClaren comes this........... Nottingham Forest chairman Nigel Doughty has announced his intention to resign as chairman of the club at the end of the season. The news comes on the same night that manager Steve McClaren decided to stand down as manager after just four months in charge. Forest had made a poor start to the season under McClaren after the former England boss was brought in to replace Billy Davies over the summer. Doughty accepts that part of his role as chairman is to accept responsibility for what happens at the club and he has therefore opted to quit, with the dream of Premier League football still a long way out of reach. Doughty has been chairman at the City Ground for ten years and will continue to support the club financially through the implementation of Financial Fair Play rules, which are expected to be introduced in the Championship next season. But he feels it will be time to go next summer and, in an official statement released by the club to confirm the news, Doughty has admitted he should be held accountable for hiring McClaren. "Mr Doughty accepts responsibility for his personal decision to recruit Steve McClaren as our manager in the close season," read the statement, which went on to say that the search for a new chairman would begin immediately. I believe McClaren thought it was going to be a certain way and then found out that was not the case. He then gave it a go, but once again it didn't quite go as he anticipated hence he walked before being pushed by The Board. Either way Forest are in a mess and he has to take some of the responsibility for it. CWL
