Delved into the old memory bank and I swear this is true although cannot recall exactly what year..... must have been early 70's. Jinky Jimmy Smith nut megging Bobby Moore at SJP. I also remember him taking a throw in during another game and bouncing it off the back of an opposing player. Crowd loved him... Amazing now to think that due to knee injuries had to pack the game in at 29. WL

Thanks for that clip WL - One of the game's great characters in the 70s along with Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and of course George Best.

Michael Owen retires: Striker to stop playing at end of season Comments (473) Former England striker Michael Owen is to retire from football at the end of the season.
Owen, 33, who scored 40 goals in 89 internationals, played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Manchester United and is now at Stoke.
He said: "It is with an immense amount of pride that I am announcing my intention to retire.
Michael Owen's career Liverpool (1996-2004): 297 games, 158 goals
Real Madrid (2004-05): 40 games, 14 goals
Newcastle (2005-09): 79 games, 30 goals
Man Utd (2009-12): 52 games, 17 goals
Stoke (2012-13) 7 games, one goal
England (1998-2008): 89 caps, 40 goals
"I have been very fortunate in that my career has taken me on a journey I could only have dreamed of. I have sat on more benches and treatment tables than most "
" I would personally like to thank all the gullible supporters who enabled me to train horses at their expense , while I sneared down my nose at their feeble attempts to get me to participate in their stupid dreams for their clubs. It was embarrasing for me putting on that act for such a long time"
"I will now be able to sit in my stables and count my money over and over again and gloat at what a miserable , anti-social, money grabbing bastard I turned out to be!"
" Cheers suckers!"

No one would be able to have such a professional view on all the teams different benches as Owen does, Canny. He has indeed made a contribution to football with this and he can indeed retire with pride now.
But to be honest I thought he had retired a long time ago.

I'm glad he made the decision to get some rest, finally.
Those 121 minutes he's logged this year are the equivalent of playing over 9 full games in dog minutes.
