Capt'n so IYO had NUFC brought in two or three new players it would have made sufficient difference to cover both the League and the extra Europa Cup Games? Unfortunately we will never know so I guess it's open to conjecture. Not convinced myself although had Debuchy and a decent centre half been acquired I would have felt more satisfied with business than what was actually done. Not sure we need another winger on the books as the place appears to be over crowded with the buggers. The midfield was for a while looking very much the same, however with our current injury list it is now looking very depleted. That's a lot of the problem in trying to get a balance among the positions. No sooner do you get one bit right than it goes pear shaped somewhere else. Mind you some areas have been pear shaped longer than others... WL

Putting the spending aspect to one side, would those same players have been pleased to see a whole raft of new players come to the Club that may well have kept them out of the team anyway? I seriously doubt it.... We are not the only Club to keep our best players in reserve for the later rounds, just look at Liverpool! Yes it may not work, however I can understand why it's done. IMO having more players doesn't necessarily mean greater success. Their squad, like ours, just doesn't have enough quality in depth to approach it any other way. WL Of course I didn't mean a whole raft of new players simply because (and you should know this) the fat controller would never spend big. I was talking more like 3-4 players who could add to the quality of the squad. I am sure you, me and everyone else identified before the season that we needed 3-4 new players especially to bolster our weak defence.

Open answer - Yes - in any event it is a showcase for the club and a means of attracting new talent.

I want to see NUFC in the champions league if possible! But does Ashley want us there? And the answer I am afraid is 'he doesn't care as long as his pockets are being filled'. So there we are. It all comes back to .... Ashley out!

Exactly Captain. That is the problem we have had ever since Ashley took over. He doesn't want what we want. But we did nothing at the start and now it is too late to change anything. So we just have to accept things as they are. It's sad....

It's easy to argue the toss when it's not your money being invested..... One thing I will agree on however is that making more money is a primary motivation for Mikey. On that basis given his business interests I would have thought being in a European Competition, be it Champions or Europa League, can only increase the potential for doing just that. His strategy for The Toon has always been about controlled investment, minimum operational overhead, maximum profit. This guy will not just chuck money at it on a whim, no matter how loud fans scream. The best approach I have found is not to have any expectation regarding the way our most benevolent owner runs the Club as it likely will end in disappointment. WL
